If you could play any instrument, and play it well, what would it be?

Years ago I tried to learn to play the flute. I wanted to be able to take over on Jethro Tull numbers. However, it turns out that I have absolutely no aptitude for it. I expected to have to study, not just pick it up and play, but after months of practise and taking lessons from a friend, I was still looking at the sheet music and saying: "That's a G, so that's an A and Oh wait. Was it flat?" I felt that at some point it should start to come more naturally to me, but it didn't.

I have to tell you, I saw Ian Anderson this summer with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, performing Jethro Tull stuff. It was great! I'd seen him a few years before (well, maybe 5 or 6), and I was disappointed that he wasn't really able to sing. This year, though, with the arrangements, I was blown away. He also had an italian violinist perform 'Kashmir' by Zeppelin, very Middle Eastern/Indian style. Too bad you didn't surpass him! I'd have paid double...

I wasn't really looking forward to the show at all, but I left impressed and bubbly!

That sounds gorgeous! Someone else said that Ian Anderson's voice was not good now, so I'm glad to hear that his flute is still going strong.

I think I would pick the mandolin, I just love that soulful sound that I think can bring tears to the eyes..

You know, I also love the sound of that instrument. I have an aquaintance who plays rather well. What I've been pondering lately, after a year of guitar lessons, is how difficult the banjo must be- and it's written off as some hick instrument. It must take real talent to do suck quick picking and strumming. I guess anything from the south of the U.S. gets a bad rap; you can play the violin as if you'd sold your soul to the devil, and you'd be called a 'fiddler'.

I'd really like to be able to read and write music, I'd like to play the harpsichord. I love the tang quality in the notes it plays. I can play the didgeridoo though. I've been able to play it fairly well since I was about ten. I remember watching Rolf Harris explain how to play one on the television, so I grabbed one of Mum's vacuum cleaner pipes and away I went, I got the circular breathing down pat first time.

Oh, P.S., I'd really like to be able to play the cowbell as well, because I just dig that flat clanging sound it gives. ?? Those aren't question marks, they're two ducks from the flying thick ear swings. :-)

Circular breathing. Isn't that what Kenny G does? He's amazing.

I want to play the guitar. I just find it hard to play it. It's too heavy for me. I want to play the classical and the electric one. I really want to learn. Playing the guitar was really cool for me.

I can play the piano pretty good. I'm not the greatest at it though. I would love to learn the guitar though. I also want to learn how to play the flute. I think the flute is such a beautiful sounding instrument.

C melody saxophone - This is my sax. I don't know how to play it...yet.
I plink on the piano, I play clarinet, and I've made what I think is a natural progression to want to play the sax. But I want to learn the fingerings and learn to play it by ear. My problem right now is that I can play only if I have the sheet music. I would like to learn sax by ear and associating it with the fingerings, so that way I can learn to play songs when I hear them.
