Beach Reading

Philippines

Tomorrow my family and I will be spending the entire day by the beach and since I am not really crazy about sunburn, I am planning to swim when the sun isn't too hot. While I am waiting for the right time to swim, I am wondering what book can I enjoy while at the beach? Care to share some suggestions? I will appreciate it Thanks fellow myLotters.

If I was doing some beach reading this summer (which I'm NOT. So jealous!) I'd probably take along some of the YA books I'd been meaning to read. I'm technically an adult, but I read lots of YA novels because I tend to prefer them. I don't really know what you like to read, but I bet some light fun reading like Terry Brook's Magic Kingdom of Landover series would be a nice beach read.

Hello allyoftherain, I also love reading YA books. I haven't read Terry Brooks' Magic Kingdon Landover series but I heard that it is worth reading so I would probably check on that. Thank you for sharing your recommendation.

My only complaint about reading on the beach is that it's hard to read with the sun in your eyes. Well, you could always lay on your stomach but then it's hard to get a tan on your front. . It really depends on what you like to read - what genre of books are your favorite? Here are some of my favorite reads, in general, a mix of genres: "A Million Little Pieces" & "My Friend Leonard" by James Frey "Torn Skirt" by Rebecca Godfrey "1st to Die" series by James Patterson "Killing Hour" by Lisa Gardner "Where are the Children?" by Mary Higgins Clark "A Great & Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray "The Shopaholic Series" by Sophie Kinsella "Wasted: A Memoir" by Marya Hornbaucher ..Those are just a few. But then again it totally depends on what interests you. Hopefully you find something good to read on the beach! Good luck!

Hello maezee, James Frey's novels are my favorits especially A Million Little Pieces. The Shopaholic Series are also on my list Not everyone appreciates James Frey if I may say that. But since you like it, I have a feeling that I will like your other recommendations so I shall be looking for it on the book store. Thank you for sharing this maezee

i often take books with me to the beach but i don't taking books from the library to the beach in case they get wet. i most often take readers digest with me because they contain short stories and my hubby likes to read the jokes. the beach where we go to has stores around there so if i feel like i am getting burnt, i can head into them.

Hello chr913, oh yea I agree that Reader's Digest can be a good beach read too. My mom love to read but she doesn't have the same patience I have when it comes to reading novels, she preferred short stories and the likes, so I always give her a copy or two of RD.

Really depends what kind of books you enjoy! If you like family based dramas then Jodi Picoult is a good beach read - her books do tend to follow the same formula so you can't read too many in a row before they get boring, but now and then they are good. if you like more action-based stuff then I can recommend Scott Mariani - I've read about five of his books, they're kind of like the Da Vinci Code but with lots more action!

Hello BlueCat, thank you for these recommendations. I have read some of Jodi Picoult novel and I agree that she follows the same formula so I m making it a point to read her works sparingly because I do not want to get bored, since I believe her writings is worth reading. I have not tried Scott Mariani's writings yet, but with your description, I must say I should give it a go.

I love the beach and I love reading but I find that the beach isn't the best place to read,no matter what the movies tell you...For starters, it's noisy,if you want to read try to find a quiet spot or wear headphones. It's also not very comfortable and for me to really appreciate a book if I can't lie comfortably down. If these things don't bother you than I advise you to pick a book with..light plot.Something from the adventure or romance genres but without too much complications because being at the beach always means getting pretty distracted so if the plot is confusing you're going to have to re-read the whole thing again later.I know this is too general of a description but everyone's tastes vary so it's hard to know what book you'd enjoy...

Hello ShadowSky, I agree that not everyone appreciated reading by the beach because of distractions everywhere. My cousin for one loves to read but she doesn't do it while at the beach because she would rather enjoy the water. In my case, my family usually pick beaches which can offer serenity to its visitors. I love doing my reading when I am just relaxing and getting a bit of a tan. I guess I am just one of those who cannot last a day without reading a book
