Why do they make the characters so stupid sometimes

Ricky let himself into Eden's place with a key and then gave it to her. My very first thought was that he probably had another one, which later they showed he did. But it doesn't occur to Eden that he might and when she tells the great PI Paul about it, it doesn't occur to him either; he just says to say away from Ricky. They both should have thought of it and gotten the lock changed. The other thing Eden should do is either move out or at least find someone to move in and be the girlfriend she told Ricky was moving in. I just hope he doesn't kill her like he did his college girlfriend because I like Eden in spite of her gullibility to people like Kyle and Daniel. At least she has spotted that Ricky is trouble even though she is not doing enough to protect herself.
