I have an online friend called Omer and we have been friends for 4 years now. We have ever got "married" on facebook which makes his whole family and friends know me.
He is a very unique friend but I love him. There are times when he is in his best behavior, we would joke a lot and laugh about a lot of things. Bottom line is that we can communicate very well. But there are also times when he is in his worst behavior and said bad things. When he is in this "evil" character, he would say things like "this is my last day on Earth", or "I'm gonna end my life today". And when I ask him what's going on he would say "leave me alone. Everybody hates me. I'm lonely" and so on. Sometimes I don't understand and can't handle this behavior. I always try to calm him down but end up getting mad at him as he won't listen. I might not act as a good friend during that moment but sometimes what he says really hurts.
I have to admit that I often forget that he has this OCD with him. And I might not understand pretty well how this disease works as I never live with people who suffer from this disease. All I know is that when Omer has it and it is still normal, he would not touch things around him as he considers them to be dirty and he doesn't want to make his hands dirty. And he would bang his head and move his body here and there all the time to keep him focus on things. And he would repeat the things he says to make sure he has said it correctly. And when this disease gets worse, well, as I've said he would say bad things. He would even hurt himself. He would hate everybody as he is sure that everybody hates him.
He often says that I'm the only girl who can stand talking to him and be friend with him as every girl he knows would finally walk away from him. Well, I might be flattered. But I think it's because I don't live near him.
Anyway, he is taking a medication now and it has been two or three months already. This medication, he says, makes him lose appetite to some kinds of food he normally likes. He also can't, well, satisfied easily. Heheheh... But he will keep taking the medication, though, so that he can get back to work. Oh, he quits his job because of this disease, by the way. I have argued about this thing. I think people with an OCD can still have a job and try to give examples like the Iron Man who I think has an OCD (but he says Iron Man isn't real) and also Howard Hughes (but he says Howard also had trouble with his job and he's right).
If any of you have known or even lived with people with an OCD, I would love to know how do they handle this disease. Thank you.

It sounds like Omer has more issues that just OCD ... perhaps he is also bi-polar or slightly autistic. In any case, at least he is taking medication for it, which seems to be helping. The problem with these medications, though, as Omer has discovered is that many have unpleasant side-effects. The trick is to try to find a medicine that has the desired effect with as few side-effects as possible, because then the person is more apt to take it like he or she is supposed to, which will help. In addition, counseling might help, especially while he is on medication and more able to control his impulses, because the counseling could offer him options for things to do when he starts to get in one of his "evil" moods, so that he can control it better.

A bi-polar person has periods of highs and lows - manic and depressive. Of course, everybody goes through periods of highs and lows, which is normal, but a person with bi-polar disorder has extremes that most people do not have ... and generally there is not much of an "even keel" or a lot of "middle ground".
A doctor is the only one that can give your friend the right medication and monitor it to make sure it is working properly with as little side-effects as possible. A regular doctor can do this, but psychiatrists or psychologists generally have more knowledge and training in this area not to mention that they are the ones that would be able to counsel your friend, so you should find out whether or not he is already seeing one.

I see. Omer has certainly seen the doctor, that's why he gets the medication. But he says that this kind of medication he is having is the only one. I am not sure whether it's the only one in his country (Pakistan)or it's really still the only one in the medical world.
I have asked him to counsel to a psychiatrist but he said that it's impossible. Maybe because his family doesn't think he needs it.

What does a bi-polar person usually do? Is it almost like autistic and OCD? And how to find this medicine that will give the desired effect? I mean he has tried some medication before, but he stopped it. He's started to take it again this time, and I think with the different medication. I don't think he has ever told me about this counseling thing, so I hope I can tell him about it. I think that's what he really needs. Thank you.

First of all: you don't live with him you only have contact on the internet. And via internet is way different as living in the same house with a person who is depressed like that. The medication will change him a lot, can also cause the moodswings, take away every feeling left over. I find it hard to read your "hehehe" about the fact he says he can't satisfied easily. Nevertheless.. I don't think there is much you can do about it. It's hard to say you have to ignore it since you will never be able to look inside him. The extreme happiness but also depression are both a part of it.. so even his best behaviour is not the real person. He will surely change.. and probl. it's not into the person he is but into someone that is more acceptable for society. The only way to handle is to laugh (or not), to keep talking/keeping busy and to ignore (if bad things are said).. to accept a person the way he is and take good care of yourself.

You're right, I only have contact with Omer through the internet. But we often talk not only from facebook, but also from Skype and even telephone call. So we talk a lot. It's like I know him well, and he knows me well. He's the first person I called when I broke up with my ex. So I hope you can imagine how close we are although it's not physically.
And this "hehehe" means sexually satisfied. Well, I don't know how to explain better.
And I do accept the way he is. I never really leave him although I have said I would, and he never really ignores me although he has ever said he wanted me to leave him alone. The point is that he actually needs me, moreover when he thinks the whole family hates him. And thank you, I will take a good care of myself.

I also have a friend who has OCD. She has to take medication for her condition. She is a neat freak. Everything has to be in place even the stuff in her cabnets and frig. She can handle the days better than what she use too. This is a condition that can be forever. She has had it for 20 some years now.

Wow...so there's no way of OCD can be cured 100%?
He is trying to "be friends" with his OCD, but I know that it's not that easy.
