I have been using airtel for nearly five years or so. I was charged 1 p per second all these day. today I found that though i talked for two seconds I was charged Re 1. I called airtel customer service. they told that concession that was given to me for five years has ended. If I want concession I have to opt for rate cutter at Rs.22--this is valid for 90 days--Airtel to airtel 1.2 p per second and airtel to landline 2 p per second. I opted for this and this is ok for me. have you availed off rate cutters like this. Are you aware of such schemes. I also helped my known people avail this scheme.

I use airtel prepaid mobile connection from the Chennai region . I usually get messages from airtel about these rate cutters quiet frequently from airtel and I do find it quiet useful but then use my phone mainly for sending sms rather than calling . So I usually put that sms booster pack which is quiet usefully for me because it is definitely cheaper than making calls .

Sms booster plans come in various varities and rates . I usually go to a mobile recharge shop and ask that fellow to put sms booster plan . I currently use an sms booster plan which costs me Rs.49 and it gives me 75 local sms per day which is quiet sufficient for me . Also there are various such plans such as the ones that give you 100 national sms per day and so on . Also this sms booster facility may vary from state to state . I am from Chennai . The advantage of sms booster is that you get to send sms at less than 1paise per sms whereas it is 75paise per sms without the booster plan . But then it is useful only if you send sms quiet frequently and prefer it to making calls . But if you send sms only occasionally , then don't put any sms booster . Also there are some one day's sms pack for rs.5 which had validity only for one day and also cost less . Also if you use internet on the move , airtel also has some internet booster plans like 98rs for one month for 1gb of usage . But then I feel that docomo is better than airtel because their service is cheaper though you will not get signal in suburbs and outside the city . Especially the sms booster plans docomo are cool .

akp-- after the offer period is over they raise it to Re 1 per call even if it is less than one minute. I got this info today when i looked into cell phone after making a call. if you are already on this plan then there is no problem. enjoy. I wanted to inform other members--those who are not aware of. In fact my cousin was not aware of it and he was paying at Re 1 per minute basis for the last six months. now i paid rate cutter and he will also be benefitted. I have aircel connections where i already get this rate cutter facility.

That's good.. Surely such rate cutter plans are good and cheap.. But I am still not sure, as I had read in the news paper(in past) that all mobile companies have reduce the call rate to 1 or 1.2 p per second permanently..

akp that is on record only. in fact cell phone companies may resort to increasing the rate if 2G auction rates go up.

hello ravi, We have budget promo here in our place too. Each network competing for their customers need-wants and demands. I am not a text message person and I seldom put load to my mobile phone. Oh well, my friends know about it so,when they send me text, they do not expect me to text back (hehehe) So, most of them call me instead of sending text messages :)

I too was using such plan and on 19th May, I found out that Airtel has deactivated this rate cutter plan on my number. When i contacted their customer care, they told be that my rate cutter plan ended up on 18th May. When i check the list of my messages, i got one of 20th Nov.(i recharged on that day) that my Rate cutter plan is valid for 1 year. I told this to customer care but he refused to act and extend my plan. Later on, i lodged a complaint against Airtel on their facebook page as i'm really disappointed by their actions and they discontinue plan of their old customers without any notification. I was a loyal airtel customer since 2004 but now, i'll be shifting soon to Vodafone via MNP. Just my experience with Airtel rate cutter scheme.

At the time when i recharged with the rate cutter plan, the shop vendor told me that it is valid for 1 year. Even on their website, it states that this plan is valid for 1 year. But they removed the plan after 6 months without any notification. Now, their plans are only valid for 3 months. They are harassing their more than 10 million customers with useless and expensive plans.

So,i found an interesting plan which airtel recently launched. Its for Rs.2 (yeah.. TWO) and it make all call to 1.5p/sec and its validity is 6 months. Now, its quite cheaper as compared to Rs. 28 rate cutter plan as i've reduced the no. of phone calls from my Airtel no. and primarily switched to my alternative no. which is of Vodafone.

harpreet: I may suggest you take once again Rs.22 rate cutter plan and see whether it works now. There is no point in trying to correct them. It should have happened due to computer instructions.

I an using DOCOMOas my cell operator and i have second billing. This offer is for life time. I find this offer as good and i am not charged much. Now as a priority customer Docomo had given of a new rate cutter. The plan is half raise per second. I enjoy this plan very much but the problem is it is not life long. Any way i love docomo and it's services.

I had taken new number from tat docomo starting January, for the first 90 days I had local calls at 1p per 2sec and std at 1.2p per 1s and after 90 1.2p per second for local and std, there are other rate cutters plans to make it to 1p per 2s for 30 days but I am not opting as I don't make much calls from my mobile ...

yes tatadocomo offers lot of concessions. there was a talk that their licence itself was in troubles on account 2G scam. we cannot be changing providers every now and then of course number portability is there. good day.

Well i have seen whenever airtel change some thing like call rate or Gprs or 3g rate than all other network operator are also bond to do that also. well airtel has increase the rate of call where before they charge 1 paisa per second and now in NE they charge 1.2 p per second as well they increase the std call rate also and all we know the roaming charges is almost Rs. 1/- per min.

aman: for sms rate cutter they charge Rs.26 per minute with option to send 100 sms per day. I send one or two a week and hence thought it is not necessary to opto for sms rate cutter.

I think it is better to go for BSNL and now a days mobile portability is available that helps to change to different providers. In BSNL there are schemes in which like BSNL Mitram one can use all the calls at 1 paise per second or .12 paise per second for other providers. Also BSNL Mitram one can call 5 BSNL numbers at the rate of 10 paise per minute. I think some of the private providers changes their plans once in a while.

ajithlal: Yes. I was having BSNL but for better coverage I switched over to airtel. But I think now bsnl has better coverage in tamil nadu.

Well, early this comment, stating that I am Italian. Up by the year 2009, I have subscribed to a phone company called "vodafone". Although I possess the basic fee, spend 22 euro cents per minute. It does not seem very convenient, in fact I should change it, but with a fee of 8 euros. Since I use the phone only for emergency, or when I can not communicate with a phone, right now, even if inconvenient, I'm such a basic fee vodafone.

alberello: Yes. I find charges in Italy are quite high compared to India. The one reason it is cheaper in India --its high population--now more than 80 crore cell phone connections are there. some of us hold more than two/three connections. I was not bothering about rates as long as I was charged at 1p per second. I talk briefly--like i have started, i am coming, pl be ready- over --like that. so i economise through this plan.
