It is a very interesting questions. Ten years ago, I can use $10 a week to meet all my need, including foods, books and clothes. Though my income increases now, because of the inflation, I can not use $20 a week to buy enough food for myself. And the price goes up and up, and I now have to spend more than $30 a week to meet my basic need, life is very hard for me. How about you? Can you use $20 to meet a week's need?

Hello dandan07, personally, I cannot really live to $20 a week budget. I have tried doing that sometime when I don't have a job yet and I don't want bother my parents. I was able to last for a week but it was too hard for me. With the increase in price nowadays, the value of $20 decreases rapidly. However, here in our country I can see people living with a budget of $10 a week. You can see that they are having a hard time getting by but then they are hard press to just deal with the situation of not having enough because they can not find any other means to have extra income. Some of them just skip meals because their money is not enough. It is heart breaking.

I know here in my country, many people can not get $1 for each day. $20 a week, they can lead a very good life in their eyes. But I can not stand a life without meat and fruits for a whole week. I will feel hungry without meat and get ugly without fruits. I think if a person can not get enough nutrition from their meals, there will be other problems for them, like health problem.

dandan, Same here, we need healthy food as well. $20 for me is just for 3 days, I can live to 7 days but it is very hard, I will have to starve, and not just that, I might get sick as well. I hope you can get more money from your boss one day, you may suggest to him the price of everything goes up and see whether he can help you out. Some bosses are good.

If the situation is much better, I think I dare to ask my boss give me a improvement. But now time is hard. If I do that, I think I may be fired and now it is hard to find another job soon. I do not know whether the financial will be better in the next three years. If situation is still as it is, I do not think I can bear any more.

depends. if there's only myself to be considered, if i don't have to go out for a week at all, if it will just be an expense for a week of food for one person only... i can stretch the $20 to feed myself... because i can cook and can make inexpensive menus. but not if i have a family and bills to pay. on food alone, our household of 4 averages about $20-$40 a day. if we dine out, it would average $20-$40 per meal. our food supplements cost about $25-$40 per week per person. so if we do the math, we'll definitely go hungry. the cost of almost everything that we usually pay for increase over time. every year, they just get harder to afford if we don't increase our income based on our needs.

I can not think about having dinner in the restaurant, it will take more than half month's income from me. I now try to do all things by myself to save money, while the food material is already costing. If I have a big family to support, I think the financial problems will make me crazy. Marriage and family to me is a luxury thing.

while saving and spending wisely are all good... we must also find ways to increase our income. otherwise this is gonna be a long-term financial problem.

I think so. If I can have more ways to earn money, life may be better than now. Learning a new language or computer skill may help me to have a improve or have another part-time job, so that I can earn enough to support myself and my family.

Honestly, I think that it can be done, but it would be very hard to do in this day and age. I have trouble with this because of where I live, but I know that there are some people who have no problem with this if they live in the right area.

I think I can do that, but I do not think that expense can help me enjoy my life. The money is not enough to buy a ticket for a movie here, and now I have to give up many entertainments I have loved. I think if I have a farm, I can grow some vegetables and fruits, may be i can also produce eggs and meats by myself. But living in a city, I do not have that space to do that.

With the cost of gas, that $20 would be gone in one day. It would be scary to calculate how much money I actually need to make it through the week. All I can do is try to work with what I have.

Ten years ago, I did not have the habit to record my money. Usually I can have some money left at the end of the month. But now, if I do not record how much I have spend for a day, I may have several days hungry every month. It is a terrible feeling, and makes me understand I become poorer and poorer.

I know I cannot live on 20.00 a week. Prices of everything keeps on going up especially the price of gas and food. There used to be a time when I could use 20.00 a week to buy things. I am making extra money on here and am hoping that I can build my income. I feel that life is hard on everybody.

Food and fuel is necessary for daily life. No matter how hard I have tried, I do not think I can live without them. So every week, food and fuel fees can be more than 60% of expense. I have to try to get rid of some expense, but the bill is still great. Now life seems hard everywhere, and i do not know how long I have to wait to a better life.

Your situation is same my situation...inflation is higher and now $20 is just enough for me for 3 days without books and clothes, just for eating and drinking only. I can't save much because of it. I am very sad about it.

Books and clothes become luxury things for me now. Fortunately, I can read book online and can earn some money online. The mylot income can help me pay the online bills. Now I try to make full use of my clothes. I have try to change my old pants become the shorts for summer, so that I can save a little. It has been more than 2 years for me never visiting the cinema.

I know that 20 dollars is the same as 12 pounds and 64 pence in my home country. I feel fed up with the rising prices in my home country. The money that I earn has not gone up very much. I would not be able to buy much food and drink with just 12 pounds and 64 pence. Bread costs 1 pound and 31 pence. Fruit juice is on a special offer of 99 pence for one liter. My kids eat food and have drinks. Dog food alone can cost 10 pounds or more. I have household bills coming in too. 20 dollars would not last me a day.

I can not keep pets though I really want to have, for I do not have enough money and space for having it. I now live with my roommate in a 15 square meters room. We have a lot of things in the room and have few space to keep a pet now. To young man here, it seems impossible have our own house, so it is hard to keep pets in such a crowd room. Money to us is a very important thing, we sometimes have to give up our dreams to earn enough money for our daily life.

Years ago i can see how $20 in my household may stretch it through the week. In todays economy, it is fortunate for that same money to last a few days. Everything is rising in price. a strict budget just doesn't stand a chance.

If everything's price goes up, our salary should goes up at the same time. But in a real world, my income is almost the same as ten years ago. While the expense for the same things become three times or more. I do not know why. I now try to do something to increase my income, I hope things will be better in the future.

It would take me more than $20 dollars to feed myself each week and I am a light eater. My family of 3 spends about $100 a week on food. Sometimes a little less if I can find good deals and stock up on non-perishable items. The price of everything is going up it is getting harder and harder to get out of the grocery store with less than $100 to keep us fed with healthy foods.

Now, my mother get up early in the morning, so that she can buy cheap food materials in the supermarket which are unsold in the former days. She use this way to cut her life expense. It is a good way to save money, but she can not get fresh food at the same time. In many case, we have to right to choose a better life because of low income. My mother tries to use her cooking skills to make food more delicious. Saving now becomes her habit. I do not have time in the morning, and it is hard for me to get cheap food material. Sometime, I will try to eat less and consider it as a way to lose weight.

Hi dandan ! Yes though the income increased but the expenditure more too which really bit us. I am living in a joint family having 7 members in it including two minors and our expenditure is $ 600 to $ 700 per month and moreover not all are employed. If our expenditure go rise in such a way than the day isn't far that there will not be saved anything with us or we should have to go for better earning opportunity.

Time is hard. That cause many old people do not want to retire, and at the same time, many young people can not have the chance to have a improve. Consider present situation, no one can sure how life will be without a good job, so they stay in their position and do not want to have a movement. In my country, if one of a couple lose his/her job, life will be very hard for the family. So many young people dare not get married now.
