Do you think Di Matteo deserves the Chelsea job for the long run?

Chelsea was going no where under AVB some months back. But since Di Matteo has taken over they have won the FA Cup, the Champions League and have also qualified for next year's Champions League. What an achievement for such a short time? Do you think this will be good enough to get him the Chelsea job for the long run? Cheers! Ram

I think Di Matteo has been successful because he has passion for the club - that's the same reason why Morinho was so successful - and all the managers in between lacked that passion and just saw it as a job/ money which is why they failed. Trouble is I don't think Abramovitch is passionate about the club either - for him is bout financial investments. Now he has achieved the one thing that eluded him for so long I think he will quickly bore of Chelsea and take his money somewhere else. So yes, I think Di Matteo should get the job but no I don't think he will get it - but equally I think Abramovitch will not be there much longer (I hope!)

It is an interesting point that you make. In a perverse way if Abrahamovich loses his interest in the club, he might end up giving the managers a longer lease. And that might actually work out better for the long run of the club. Cheers! Ram

A caretaker-has taken care of everything! Seriously, I believe in what goes around comes back round kind of thing. If you do not give the credit to a successful person, eventually universe will take it somehow. They have to offer him a job, he deserves it.

Winning two silverwares and one of them being the most covet among the European clubs, Di Matteo has got to nab that position on a permanent basis. However, the victory does not cover the weakness in the team. Both in the semi-finals and final, had the oppositions been more clinical, we could have witness rugby scorelines. I put in down as ineptness of the opposition. Regardless, whoever take over the rein, he will have a great deal of rebuilding to do. In the meanwhile, let them bask in the glory of being the Champion of Europe.

I think now that the big one is had, the next wish from Abrahamovic would be to play flowing football to make it interesting. So given this new wishlist, this team would need to be revamped. And that would be a biggest challenge for any new manager who takes over. Cheers! Ram

The new Chelsea manager has a good idea. He told Abramovich; "Boss, why don't we buy and take the whole Barcelona team over here?" Abramovich answered; "How much?"

Yes, at a minimum he should be given at least one year to try it out his hand. But let's see what Abrahamovich has in his mind. Cheers! Ram

The problem is that he needs to rebuild the whole team as they are all aging players. So it was one thing motivating the existing players to win, and another to rebuild the squad. And that is why he would be assessed as whether he can take the task. Cheers! Ram

well I can't think that the coach that brought Abramovic the UCL title would be sacked, he should be given a chance and see how far the team can go next season.

I am not so sure about Abrahamovic as he is an owner who has already sacked people like Mourinho, Ancelotti and Scolari. So until the news is confirmed, I will wait and watch this corner. Cheers! Ram

Roman has rewarded Di Matteo with a permanent contract for winning the UCL. So now he has a chance to keep it going at Chelsea. Cheers! Ram

Yeap he is a little unpredictable but I think that since Di Matteo got him the title he wanted the most since he became in charge of Chelsea, I think he'll give him the chance. If he wouldn't get the UCL I don't think he would be given that chance.

Yes, the project that Abrahamovic started 10 years back with Mourinho has finally been completed Di Matteo. So in that essence Chelsea now have the complete set of trophies. Cheers! Ram

They only qualified for next years champions league by winning the cup and did not qualify by their league position. I think that he does deserve the job but somehow i do not think that he will get it. I may be wrong but it is just a gut feeling.

I share the gut feeling. Given the riches of the champions league, I do not think anyone at Chelsea is worried that he qualified by winning the Champions League rather than the league position. Cheers! Ram

As much as I hope to see that Di Matteo gets it, I am rather pessimistic that it will be so. It is weird that the manager who delivered the greatest prize for the club but his service is not wanted by his club. Anyway, if he is not in Chelsea next season, I think we will still be seeing him in EPL next season. His CV is good enough for a lot of teams.

Of course, there is Liverpool and then there is Aston Villa. Both these clubs are looking for replacement. Maybe he can also think of going to the championship with one of the recently relegated sides, maybe Blackburn and bring them back straight up. Cheers! Ram

I think he deserved to get the job since he has won the FA Cup and the Champions League. Although he did not do well in the premier league, overall he did well. He has brought back the chemistry back into the Chelsea team. It is up the the owner and CEO of the club, but he has proved himself.

Yes, he did bring back the chemistry in the Chelsea team. The turnaround was very evident to the team members. But now the core of this Chelsea team will more less need to go i.e. Drogba, Terry and Lampard are not getting any younger. So this rebuilding is what we need to see whether he can bring about. Cheers! Ram

Under AVB the team seemed to fall to pieces anytime things went against them. There was no confidence in the side and they seemed to be resigned to losing whenever they went behind. Since Di Matteo took over the team has grown in confidence and has got harder an harder to beat. The team spirit and determination he has instilled was never more evident than in both the FA cup and Champions League Finals. If that isn't enough to give Di Matteo the job for at least next season then Abramovich needs to get out of Chelsea now.

I think AVB tried to do too much in a short time. He forgot that he needed to establish himself with the team that he had and then build the team for the future. So he lost his dressing room so to speak especially the senior players and that showed on the field whenever things went wrong, there was no one to take the leadership mantle. But Di Matteo has instilled his faith back in the old timers and then settled them and the team and that has shown dividends for the club and the manager big time. Cheers! Ram
