Well, fashion is my passion and I have a dream to own a boutique and art gallery in the future. To pursue my dream I start learning how to sew my own dress, it is not an easy thing to do but I have my sister and my mother's friend to help me. I know i need to take a fashion class so I can learn it better but I dont have the time yet. So right now Im making my own dress inspired by Kate Middleton just as the picture below. I think she is a sophisticated woman and this dress is gorgeous. Do you make your own dress or do you buy it? Who is your favorite fashion role model and why do you like her? What do you think about Kate Middleton? Hahaha..I ask too much but im so excited with this project, hopefully I can finish the dress soon. Actually my mother's friend helped me to make the pattern of this dress so I will sew based on the pattern she made for me

Hello there! I bet you really are a good dress maker... It's good to learn to sew, my parents are both dress makers but then I don't have time for learning how to sew specially on sewing machines. well, i have learned sewing in hands but i am not a good one. most of the time, i just repair my clothes when they got torn apart. The dress you have shared is nice. I think it can be hard to make. but then Kate is wearing an inside dress, isn't it?

Actually they were both high school teachers who teach dressmaking... We also have our own sewing machine in our house since we were little kids. We are four sisters but only one had the desire to sew, which isn't me... Well, yes my mother usually make dresses for us when we were little. But it has been stopped due to her disease sometimes. They just sew other people's uniforms in here around our place who comes by our house. There are also times my father is the one who sews those jeans and pants. He is more knowledgable than mom on this. Of course, it's better to fix clothes for yourself and not rely on to others. I just made it by hands. and my father usually laughs at times when I sew the wrong way...haha I always wonder how to crochet. I feel like it's really hard to do. I guess I don't have much patience to learn those but if ever there would be opportunity to learn, why not...just hope that my teacher won't get too upset if ever i get it wrong...^_^ Yeah, you can do it your own style.well, the texture of the cloth can be different same as the design of the dress, isn't it? Happy that you can make your own dress.

hELLO annavi23, wow you are so lucky to have both parents as dress makers, do they always make you new dress? It is nice when someone made us a dress because they sure made it with love, my late grandmother made us crochet baby shoes and I still can feel her love even she is already passed away. Im also inspired to make dress for my future baby, I want to show them my love through the dress I make. I believe your talents must be in something else, even if you dont make dress by your own self. To fix our own clothes is a good thing, so we dont have to depend on other people to fix it for us. Yes Kate Middleton's dress is nice and she looks so stunning, I made crochet headband because I dont have hat like Kate's hehehehe. The dress that I want to make have different material and wont look the same as Kate's because I will combine the dress with a knee length skirt (hehehe I dont want to copy cat 100% or I might be sued for plagiarism )

Hello ryanong, I wished i could buy more and more but my budget cannot support my shopping habbit so I have to make it or stop my fascination on dress lol but I cant do it. Perhaps you should add applique to the tshirt or shirt, to add applique is not that hard we can buy applique on store and then apply it on our clothes. Maybe you cannot make your own clothes but you sure do have talent in something else.

lol not me i can barely sew a button on a shirt lol.. if i need anything like that done i usualy call on my mom.. she takes care of all that for me.. i cant even cut in a straight line, but it is so funny that my sister got all those great traits and she can make or sew anyting and she is a vert tallented artist.. she got all the good things i feel like i got jipped and got nothing lol. she even got the beauty as well and is way prettier then i am.. but im content and that is waht matters.. i do wish i could sew. i have an aunt that loves to sew and makes lots of prettty crafts.. she is great as well,, and can make almost anything she wants to.. i did use to try and make a quilt but ended up gettting bored woth it and stopped before it was done.. im sure if i wanted i could make a small one.. and maybe one day will..:)

Laken You are a great woman, I think you have your own talent that you sister doesnt have you just need to figure out what is it, well beauty is in the eyes of the beholder you are beautiful and I think you are a kind heart woman I read it through your discussions that you are a friendly person. My sister knows how to cook a great good, she even run a business from her cooking hobby and I only know how to make simple foods but I believe my talent is in something else. I admit my addiction in fashion has consumed alot of money because I bought alot of dresses, then i decide to make my own dress. It is cheaper to make my own dress although it is time consuming but Im so satisfied. I never tried to make a quilt but I will add it to my list "what I want to learn and what i want to do" thanks for the inspiration, I wish you the best.

I can remember my seventh grade home economics class and making my first dress all by myself from pattern to finished product. I was so proud. I even made my own barbie doll clothes for a while. I admire anyone who can find the time and patience to make their own clothing, It is a lot more convienient to buy it off the rack but tha t sense of pride and accomplishment cannot be matched.

Hello sender621, yes I agree with you to buy from store is easier and we will get our dream dress as soon as we pay the item. I know some people who keep saying to me "why make if you can buy, wasting the time", I dont think it is a waste of time at least Im doing something useful and I can save my money because making my own dress is way cheaper than buy from market. I've finished crochet a dress for my 2 years old niece, but then I have idea to make dress by clothing material.

Hi, i never have talent to become a tailor. But i have a talent to sell dress. i usually make collection of dress meaning that i purchase for my own in discount price. i don't have any favourite fashion role model cos i enjoy myself with our collection. You such a talented person. I wish your dream comes true to have your own boutique and art gallery.

Hi Loveshop, Im the opposite of you I dont have the talent to sell. Im confuse to decide the price, etc hahaha I know as a seller it is our right to take profit but sometime Im thinking too much like "maybe Im selling it too expensive, etc". But my sister who owns a snack cafe always help me to decide the right price for the thing I want to sell. Actually I never thought of making my own dress, I used to buy but then I got bankrupt from my habit so I decide to make my own dress. As started I will make dress for my own use and then after practicing alot I would be able to sell and open my own boutique. Thanks for the support I pray for you that your business is success too.

Wow that dress is gorgeous! Now I want to make one. The fabric is just so pretty. I would love to make my own dresses but I kind of suck at it. I have a little experience and a sewing machine. However my sewing machine sometimes screws up so I'm going to get another first, before I start practicing again. For me there really isn't one style icon, I admire so many women eg Amber Heard, Taylor Swift, Megan fox etc. They each have their individual styles and I am inspired by all of them, like Taylor Swift is demure yet elegant, Amber Heard & Megan Fox really know how to rock it.

Hello AnnieTopaz, thanks for the response. Yes the dress is really gorgeous and Kate looks stunning in the dress. I know my dress wont looks alike the same as Kate's dress but I would like to make (almost) the same design as Kate's dress. I have not take a formal fashion course because I dont have the time yet but Im saving money for the course, Im really excited and I hope I can make a living from this hobby. I made some cushions it is not that great but I believe practice makes perfect, so I want to practice more and more by making dress, baby dress, cushion etc. Just dont give up and dont stop practicing I hope you will get a new sewing machine soon. Im going to take a look at those people you mentioned, I know them but I did not really notice their style, I like Taylor Swift's song and she is really a sweet heart. Megan Fox is a sexy woman, ahahaha I need to work hard on my body to have body like Megan Fox. Thanks alot for the inspiration.

Hello Soniasony, perhaps you cannot sew your own dress but Im sure you have talent in something else so dont worry about it, Im not sure of my talents but I believe our success is 2% talent and 98% efforts. Hahaha i never thought that I would be interested in fashion, i used to be someone who doesnt care of my fashion and style. Time is changed, then i became interested with fashion and spent a lot of money to buy new dress, and guess what...my bank account almost empty because of my bad habbit. it has to be stopped so I decide to learn how to make something. I started by crochet, then try to sew cushion, then I try to make a dress for myself. Im quite happy with myself, in case if I cant afford to open a boutique at least i can do something for my family and my future chilren when Im married later.

The dress in the picture is beautiful. I would love to be able to make my own clothes, but the best I can do is to just go by the pattern, I can't even alter it for my measurements. Everything I've made for myself looks obviously homemade. I'm sure that if you have the talent and can put in enough effort, you can create some beautiful clothing!

Hello Rapunzelcat, yes the dress looks beautiful plus Kate Middleton has a good body thats make the dress looks more stunning. My mother's friend make the pattern for me and I will sew based on the pattern, I still cannot figure out how to make a pattern and how to measure it. I need to take a fashion course but I need to wait until I finish my exam and I can register to a fashion class in summer break. Thanks for the support, I believe talent is come second after a hard effort and if we really have a strong willing to make our dream comes true. And I think practice makes perfect

I've done some sewing projects for costume gear mostly. So far a shiny cloak, a Renaissance dress, and a fairy costume complete with wings. I worked with patterns for all of them with the exception of the wings that came with the fairy outfit which I had to make through guessing. And a LOT of help from my sister who went to school for fashion design and knows all the ins and outs about sewing. It's fun creating something and getting an outfit that's got your own personal spin on it, but I'm not too fond of all the work involved in sewing. You get a real crick in your back all the time. Not a fan of Kate Middleton, but that is a cute dress and I hope your dress comes out good.

I thought the fairy costume was pretty cute too, I wore it to a Renaissance Faire. I don't know what else I'm going to wear it for, but I'll find an excuse. It is great to have an expert helping, and I hope you get a chance take your own classes in sewing. I think I could use a few classes myself.

Hello allyoftherain, wow the projects you have done sound amazing. a fairy costume with wings you made must be cute, I would love to make one for my niece later. Yes, sewing is not an easy thing to do especially because I never took a fashion design class before, hopefully I can take it soon. It is nice to have someone who is an expert to supervise our project, I was accompany my mom visit the doctor and while waiting for her turn suddenly I told her I want to make my own dress then she told me about her friend who is expert in designing dress. I will finish my university in 1 year (hope so), so I need to learn how to dress up as a grown up a mature woman then I found Kate's fashion style. Im not trying to imitate her dress 100%, but yes this dress really inspire me.

I used to buy my dresses from ready made shops. I used to select them if they are good and fit at me. I don't take any role models for my dressing. I used to dress with my fashion and in my style.

I used to buy a lot of dresses and I still have several dresses I have never wear. Anyway, buying a dress is more expensive than making it this is why I would like to make my own dress and hope someday I can make my own pattern. I was a tomboy girl before, I wear jeans and tshirt but nowadays I become more feminine and start wearing feminine dress. I think Kate is so elegant

Hi fashionfever! It is nice to hear you are interested in fashion designing and make your clothes by own. One's intension for his/her profession make the works easy. And about me i mostly use to buy my clothes readymade.

Hello PurnaSharma, thanks for the response. Yes Im interested in fashion designing because Im a fashion addict and I love to buy new dress, it is a money consuming habbit hahaha so i decided to stop and start to make. Im inspired by my father, even he has a good job but he still likes to make his own furniture like bookshelf, bird cage, etc. Many people told him why make if we can buy, but to make our own thing something else. I also think that making dress can save me a lot of money, and i would want to make lot of baby dress for my future baby when Im married in the future. I also want to have a boutique and art gallery as side job, I think in this economic situation and the fact that to have a stable job is really difficult so I need to have a skill. Sometime i tempted to buy ready made clothes but I take a look at my budget :( so I go windows shopping just to see latest model.

that is a nice suggestion to go through online marketing, yes it is popular here to shop online people dont have to go out to buy what they need, they just need to sit infront of their pc and then purchase the item they want to buy and then wait until the item delivered. thanks for the idea :)

Well, I could do that but I never have. In some ways I have but not from scratch . I had a torn sock and I sewed that my self , does that count . I also made a bunny puppet out of a sock once by sewing it , like the character Phoebe did in the hit sitcom but I never made a dress . I did try knitting once but it seemed too boring an after a few minutes my fingers were so sore because of that uncomfortable way I was forced to hold those sharp metallic chopstick thingies. I always forget what its actually called

Hi Billutheguy, wow you are so creative to make bunny puppet from sock, I ever saw it but I never made it. That is nice, even you never made a dress but you know how to fix your torn sock at least you dont have to buy new socks or rely on other people to fix it for you. hehehe...I too find out that knitting is not an easy thing to do, i still prefer crochet but probably when I have a real knitting tutor that site infront of me i would be able to know how to knit, until now i learn by watching video tutorials and I still cannot do it right. Ah I never used metal knitting needles, I only have plastic and wooden needles it is lighter than the metal knitting needles.

I learn knitting and crocheting by watching video tutorials on youtube, for crochet I prefer watch video tutorials by teresa richardson (her username on youtube is tjw1963) and clare (her username on youtube is bobwilson123), and for knitting I watch video tutorial on youtube from knitting by judy.

well If I ever try it again I'll use the plastic or wooden ones, although I don't think that'll happen ever again. I am not sure if there is an entire site, all about knitting, but I'm quite sure there might be sites focused on that among other things. How did you learn knitting ?

Hi Musicluv4life, I have this crochet baby hats and shoes made by my late grandmother, I never really knew her but the I still saved the item as I can feel her love. So actually if I could not have my own boutique and art gallery at least I want to learn how to make clothes for my children in the future. I used to spend most of my money on clothing but then I saw nothing on my bank account then I decided to do something, the bad habit has to be stopped. Thanks for the wish, I hope the same to you. Hey I visited your website, you are a talented person
