What do you do during a Thunderstorm

My dog is currently shaking like a leaf against my leg as a pretty big storm makes its way through my town. My daughter loves storms and is sitting at the back window looking for lightening. Personally, I would love to sit and watch the storm roll in out on my porch, but that sets a bad example to my child.

i am afraid of thunderstorms. i usually stay in the house for safely if there is thunder and lightning. there has been a lot of incidence in the news where in people got hit by lightning and die instantly. for me its not safe to play in the rain if there is thunder and lightning.

I do not play out in the rain. I stay safely under the porch as it comes in. When it gets right overhead, I head inside. I am much more cautious now that I have a child. I used to stand out in the open until the rain started watching the lightning.

I like to watch them too. I have a lanai that has windows half way up the walls, and it makes a great place to watch them. I don't think what you do is a bad example for your child either, we should respect the power of a storm, but not fear it. Besides, there are some things in a storm that we should watch for. Tornadoes for example are hard to predict. They can tell us that a system has rotation and a "hook" echo, and is likely to produce them, but we still rely on spotters that see them on the ground. We can look for signs, such as dark almost greenish appearing clouds, hail and horizontal rain. You won't see those signs sitting in a living room, but if you do you want to be prepared to seek shelter immediately.

I have seen the effects of a tornado that touched down near my house. I definitely respect the power that is found in a storm.
