How many years after the death of Jesus was the first book written about him?

The reason for my question is if it is a hundred, two hundred or three hundred years before someone wrote about this great historical figure, does it not stand to reason that when there is no literature recorded for such a long period of time that it would be difficult to quote Jesus and what he stood for and that it would be mostly hearsay? I am only asking and mean no disrespect. Can you tell where the information came from after a blank two or three hundred ears? As a Muslim I follow the teachings of Jesus too because they are sincere and make sense.
