My Kitten Died

One of our cats had two little kittens a short while ago. She's been a lovely Mum and I've really enjoyed watching her lying with them, with all their little paws doing that stretching things. Yesterday the little ones opened their eyes for the first time.
This morning when I checked on them Mummy cat was washing one but it wasn't moving. Alarm bells went off in my head and I picked it up to discover it had sadly died. I've no idea what went wrong. There's no mark on it, it looks like it just went to sleep.
I'm generally pretty tough when it comes to life and death. We keep animals for the table as well as pets, and so death is not uncommon. But I'm unusually touched by this little life. It didn't even have time to really see the world.
The second one is currently fine, but the poor thing has had to put up with me checking on it every ten minutes all day!
Have you experienced something similar? Any thoughts on what may have one wrong?

I'm sorry for the lost of the kitten. How is momma cat? Is she grieving?

Ok. I guess if Momma cat is ok with it then we both have to be ok too.

Hiya GM,
Across from here a House or two the Sheep Dog had Puppies for the first time but two of them were stillborn nobody knows why it happened they just could not make it that´s all as they looked healthy enough.
All the rest of them were fine.
We had another Dog too whose Puppies were stillborn but the other two were just fine and lived till they were 18 years old especially the male he lived the longest.
He was a beautiful copper coloured coated Dog and so playful too.
I am always touched by these kind of things.
I was reading the other Day about a first time Dog she had no less than twelve puppies and they all lived so what do you make of that?
On top of that she was abandoned in the Street prior to her giving birth to those 12 little Darlings.xxx

Hiya GM,
Sometimes I think that these happen but why it happens is not really for us to know is it?
That is a great shame about those little Puppies but those things happen.
What kind of puppies were they then? So nice to know they survived as well.
Are they around on your Farm as Guard Dogs or as Pets well they could be both.
We have Dogs on Farms here but they keep leaving them loose just lately and they run after people too its quite scary and I am not afraid of Dogs but these Dogs are really big ones and not very friendly at all and they don´t back off either.xxx

Hiya GM,
Just been looking both breeds up and they are lovely GM. The Cross Labrador must be quite something to reckon with and the first breed I looked up is nice too.
Oh yes they have to do a job as well as being pets but the Dogs I refer to are not supposed to be loose in the lanes and molesting people either and I do believe that they would bite given a chance so I don´t go up there now.
I managed to run for it the first time.
With six of those kind of breeds I would say that you have quite a handful there but very nice dogs though.xxx

So sad. My condolences.
Don't have a clue what went wrong, though.
