School zones are in place for a reason, right?

School zones are in place to keep children safe from getting hit or ran over by a vehicle going at 35+mph. however, I still see people speeding by as I sit there waiting for my kid to come out of school. It makes me mad at how inconsiderate people are. What bothers me is many are probably parents. Some still say they didn't know it was school zone but there are signs everywhere stating the times when it starts and ends and then there are signs that flash also. Has anyone experienced this? Do you feel angry when you see this or is it just me?

I know exactly what you mean and I, too, am vexed with how negligent people are in this regard. As you say, many of the speeders are parents. I just don't get it. I am terrified of inadvertantly hitting a child, especially in parking lots, neighborhoods, and, of course, school zones. I try to mind my speed and be on the lookout, because one never knows when a child may dart in front of you, or even behind you! And yet, I see drivers talking on their mobile phones while backing out of parking places, and I cringe with fear for the little ones who may be nearby.

I agree with you it scares me too. I am overly protective over any kids. I will perpousely drive in the middle of two lanes to slow the drivers down in the school zones. One time I got pulled over and I told the cop that the drivers were speeding up behind me from both lanes so I got in the middle cause there were kids crossing. I rather them hit me then the kids.

My brother wrote a very pointed letter to the editor of the newspaper noting the irresponsible speeders near his children's school. It was a very pointed letter. A bit provocative, really, as it called negligent drivers 'terrorists' and went on to say how he defined that. The result of the letter was increased patrols and ticketing around the school, especially in the two immediate weeks following the letter.

Problem is here there has been several kids hit and a few severely injured. Authorities don't seem to feel alarmed and have not increased police presence.

I do feel angry when people are inconsiderate. Recently I went to a city in bus and it's 9 hours from where I'm staying and I live in a small town. My dad was eating a banana and threw the peel out of the window. When I looked outside, I found that the road was so clean and dad, without even thinking about it threw peel there and went on throwing. I just got very angry!!

hai Some drivers are boastful, one instructor of our school crossing in the pedestrian lane in front of our school, when a jeep continuous running and of course the instructor did not stop, the driver almost bump the instructor before he stop driving the instructor is very angry and complain against the driver, and poor driver because the instructor has a son who is a great lawyer. The instructor says that it's GOD ways because it happened to me, so that all vehicle drivers should be given a warning and reminders that will understand the "school zone and what is the used of pedestrian lane". I think all drivers private or vehicle should go on seminars every 2 weeks, to know there duties to avoid accidents.. have a nice day
