How I Wish It's Still Okay For Me To Eat Sea foods

For almost five years now I never taste crabs or shrimps. I really missed eating such food. The reason it's not good for people with hypertension. In occasions where food are being served I just pretend I don't see crabs and shrimps. I often missed the crabmeat fried rice I used to order in one of the famous restaurants but to avoid stroke I have to get contented with vegetable and fish. Others said I can also eat them but just a little but due to my fear of having a high blood pressure, I just won't taste. How about you friends, do you crave for food not good for your health too?

I have hypertension but it is well controlled with medication so I can eat whatever I want although I try to avoid things that I know are bad for me. I could not completely give up shellfish as I love them way too much. I come from a state (Maryland) that is known for it's steamed blue crabs and I grew up with them so there's no way I could give them up entirely. Eating them occasionally should not give you a stroke unless your blood pressure is extremely high and not controlled by medication. One thing I love is tuna salad. I don't know what it is but every time I eat tuna I get a really bad headache. No one has been able to give me a reason as it is not a normal symptom of an allergy or intolerance. Still, I love tuna so I do eat it. I just keep in mind that I will be getting a headache so I don't eat it if I have to go out anywhere or if I am out. As long as I'm home and have nothing important to do, I'll eat and enjoy my tuna salad. I just remember to have the aspirin nearby.

Perhaps you have a very effective medicine that you can still eat these crabs and shrimps. If i get headaches usually my bp is high and by just eating little of these foods I got headache so I really avoid it. Thanks mentalward for the response. Have a great week.

Yes, perhaps my medicine is good enough to control my blood pressure after eating shellfish. You have given me something to think about, though. Since I get a headache from eating tuna, maybe my blood pressure goes up when I eat it causing the headache. I have a blood pressure monitor so I will have to take my blood pressure the next time I eat some tuna and get the headache to see if that is the case. If it is, then I will have to stop eating tuna forever. You have a great week, too.

though fish is quite safer than these crabs and shrimps but right you may check on it. Thanks again mentalward. Best regards...

That is really too bad--crab and shrimp are delicious! I wonder what the connection is between shellfish and hypertension? I know they can be problematic for people with high cholesterol, but I have never heard of problems relating to blood pressure. is it the fact that they contain iodine? Very curious. . .

Yes suzieqmom when you got high cholesterol it would lead to hypertension. So foods with high cholesterol are not advisable. Thanks for the response. Have a good day.

Hi bing, I know a technician from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, he was our team leader during seaborne patrols. He was assigned to Paguil Bay in Misamis Occidental where crabs and shrimps are abundantly cultured. When I saw him again during one of our refresher courses, I was amazed for he moved and talked like an old man only to find out he had a stroke from, you guessed it, eating a lot of crabs and shrimps. I don't really believe that sea foods can cause hypertension but the way you put it, I was reminded of the man who ate a lot of crabs. I have no chance to eat such seafood here, they cost a fortune so I just go for the ordinary fish sold around town such as tuna and sardines, I feel no side effects so far.

Oh my, not being able to eat seafood would be torture for me. I'm glad I don't have any food allergies or illness that would limit what type of food I can eat.

So sorry for you. It is really a sad thing that you can't eat seafood. I know how you feel. I am a person who like to eat meat and seafood a lot. Each meal I would have meat or seafood. If I didn't eat them some time, I would really miss them. Then I have to eat meat to my content, otherwise i can't focus on.I know that it's good to eat more fruit and vegetables. Considering the health problem, I try to keep a balanced diet. But i think it's impossible for me to quit meat.

Oh that's so lucky of you, you can eat meat and seafood all the time. So good for you to have a balance diet and it's alright eating meat and seafood as long as you don't have hypertension. Thanks sherrill for the response. Have a nice day.
