How much respect a doctor deserves? And how much do you have for doctors?

There are good doctors and there are bad doctors. In my country, people have little to no respect for them. They're considered to only to their jobs if you bribe them. Still, people appreciate doctors in private institutions as being good. The thing is, in a state hospital, a doctor has a low wage, while in a privite hospital, the wages are 2-3 times higher. Anyway, what do you thing about doctors? Do you respect them? Or just consider that they MUST do their job no matter the wage and respect offered to them?

All doctors have my utmost respects except those who are willing give up their professional ethics for economic gain. Some shameless doctors here in our place caters to patients who have ailments/sickness not related to their chosen field of specialization. Then, there's this other doctor who keeps telling poorly informed people that he's a doctor of all trade (although, he finished medicine without any specialization, he's just a general physician). But he "justified" it by saying that since he's a GENERAL doctor, he knows everything. LOL Anyway, I have zero respect for these kind of doctors.

I am not impressed with western medicine, but it is almost like a state religion where I live. All citizens, whether they use the services or not, are required to pay into a national medical insurance system which is in my view autocratic, patronizing, and unscientific. So I have as much respect for western medical doctors socially as for any other people, but I do not have much respect for their profession. I am less concerned with what respect doctors are given than what respect they show their clients. My own doctorate is in a non-medical field, but since I am at least as well educated as most of them and much more so than many of them, I am rather appalled at the amount of blind trust that I see many of my neighbors and friends have in medical doctors and protocols. That said, I would add, though, that more than ever before we are seeing MD's with the courage to take a stand against the established practices and treat their patients as equals as well as to promote nutrition, and other so-called non-traditional approaches to wellness.

A good doctor will command respect from people, there is no doubt about it. While in every professions, there is always few or some 'bad apples' among the professional, you can render your own opinion on each one individually without coming to the conclusion quickly that every doctor is good or bad, some deserve recognization and respect, while other may not and should earn it through his action.

I think they deserve about as much respect as it pertains to really how well they do their job. And there are some doctors that I wonder how they even got through medical school a lot of the time. Where the people would be better served by diagnosing their problems by looking things up on the Internet. I wish I was joking but it is the truth. There are a lot of good doctors out there and I think there are people who thank their lucky stars if they have a good one, who actually knows what they are talking about. Other doctors, the term "quack" would be an insult to quacks everywhere when describing this doctor. But much like everyone else, they have a job they do, most of the world works for wages far beneath what they deserve, so why should doctors be any different.

I have to say I respect good doctor, but I won't respect quack. It based on the ability that she/he can cure me. Last time I went to a hospital for sore throat, my throat is so painful, I only uttered very coarse voices, the doctor suggest me to have IV infusion for 3 days, I need to work and do not want to stay in hospital, so I bought medcine by myself, and I just ignore her description, after 4-5 days, I was better. Previously I got same sickness, from other hospital, a doctor just suggest 1 day IV infusion, and I felt a lot better after that infusion. For good doctor, I respect them I will pay extra to them to get the job done, last time my wife got ovaraian cysts, I gave a red packet to doctor with extra cash for doctor.

Personally anymore, I think it depends on the Doctor and how they show themselves. There are a lot of Doctors I show respect, and feel it is always worth it to do so. These are the ones I know I can count on when I have a question or thought who can let me know they agree, or what I should do to help make myself feel better. What I hate, are the ones who never want to listen, and get tired of someone like me who is proactive, and searches out stuff when they have questions just to make sure what I am doing is right.

Personally for me, I would say it really depends on the doctor. As you have said there are Good doctors and there are Bad doctors out there. The ones that will listen to you, and want to work with you, no matter how you feel, these I would consider the Good doctors. Most doctors I personally always hold in high respect, but I have seen a few lately that I often wonder where they get their bedside manner and always want to blame the patient?

I believe that a person deserves rdspect based on the quality and integrity of the job they do, not based solely on their position. If a doctor does a poor job, s/he does not deserve the respect that would be given to a doctor of high quality. Same for any other profession.

Every profession deserves respect if he is faithful to his duty, be it a medical profession or any other profession. As doctors are involved in the battle of life of a patient, their profession is supposed to be noble. But the order of the day is that most of them are so much merciless and negligent towards patients, only hankering after money, that the profession is no longer noble for them and they cannot claim to deserve respect from patients. But it is true that still now there are doctors who can still command respect from patients. So when you are talking of respect, it totally depends on the service he renders to his patients as a part of his profession.

I agree with your statement of there are good doctors and there are bad doctors, both in morals and in terms of knowledge. While I've disliked almost every doctor I've met because they have a holier than thou attitude, I do think most of them do want to help people. I can not speak on state hospitals because we don't have a system like that here.
