Its really nice that this era some indipendent artists were able to hit the charts, Ever since Sony got sued for their payola cheating schemes, I had noticed that many Independent artist are starting to prosper. Indie artist who is not a puppet of a controlling producer. Seeing a Belgian Australian Indie singer at the top of the US charts is really amazing.I really think many people can relate to Somebody that I use to know because its a powerful break up song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY this song have 226,679,574 views in youtube..... I cant believe this song still not yet popular in my country. first time in 8 years that I like the number song in billboard.

I only listened to New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra's music for the first time a few days ago, and really enjoyed her songs, and think I saw Gotye's face while I was checking out her videos. Wow, this song, "Somebody That I used to Know" is absolutely stunningly gorgeous, I love it. is it me or does Gotye sound a little like our own Sting? But only a little; he has an amazing voice. I want to listen to more. Thank you for introducing me; I am impressed!

What I've heard of her music is incredibly good; she is one deeply gifted young woman. This is a pretty healthy age for singer-songwriters; so much musical talent about.

speaking of Kimbra, she is now charting in the US, people remembered her small participation on this song, tried to search her own music and the rest is history.

I love this song! It is played in our fm. Listen to RT. They play good indie bands. There are lots of Indie bands that are at par even better than the well-known pop artists of today. I just type "Indie songs" in youtube search bar and I am given lots of options! Most of them I love!

these are some good Indie artist i can suggest, They were still struggling but given the exposure I think they will be huge cos their music is good.Based on your taste you dont like depressing songs, So I know some artist that I can suggest. The first one I will suggest would be florez. they perfectly mixed Jazz and rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3QJ_yWApj8 http://www.myspace.com/florez Imogen Heap- she sings with this mystical and celtic style of singing. One of her songs were butchered by that *^%$& Jason Derullo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAKh26bfkpw

Hey YOH! my friend! great discussion! Like you I really liek the song! really sense a lot of feelings into it. It's really catchy too. I've liked it the first time i heard it on the radio and I even hurriedly ask my dad if the band is from the 80's or something... But they seem to be really really new! They deserve the hits so much. just imagine 200million hits.. Thank you gotye for giving life to the genre's of the 80's back up again! Legit song this is!

Its actually not a band, Gotye is an indie singer, an underground artist, there are many great indie artist and Gotye is very lucky to be noticed.... he deserved the luck though. Gotye is born in 1980 and started his career in Australia during 2001. so his succcess is hardwork and perseverance, he didnt gave up. In a small budget he makes this massive song.

Hello CaptainAlbert, Not bad and this is the first time i have seen this video. I am so glad that there is some one like you that take notice of the musics that are contrary to WEstern or Korean type of Music genre's. it's what i hate about being US so powerful is that they're music has penetrated our market in asia that we don't even see music in russia, except the one i saw before. thanks

Indie is starting to make waves in the US because a certain company is not allowed to cheat the charts anymore ( I think they still cheat but its reduced)Our country have its Indie scene as well and I hope they can prosper over the generic americanized crap and gazillions of acoustic covers shoved in our throats now,

the thing with Indie artist is that they write their own songs and they dont have the producers controlling them like puppets. then we are bombarded with autotune trash. basically their songs are labor of love. they do it for passion, not money

Yeah, maybe that is why they produce good songs.. since no one is pressuring them.. I am just sick of autotune too. Except for jessie J, she may not be an indie singer but her live singing is so much better than autotune.

sadly a lot of people dont give them a chance just because people dont hear their songs on the radio. You know most people wanted to be spoon fed with their music instead of trying to find some good singers and artist.

I actually heard the cover and parody of this song before I heard the original. The "Walk off the Earth" cover with 5 people on one guitar was the first version I saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M and then I saw the "The Key of Awesome" parody of the "Walk off the Earth" cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwPHy17Iu6E This song really got attention after Ashton Kutcher and Katy Perry tweeted about the song.

so the reason it gets the attention it had is because of celebrity tweets. I guess twitter is now better than radio.

typo correction: I cant believe I love the number 1 song in billboard, cos I hated them in the last 8 years. this song for sure inspired many indie artist. that they can have a successful career under their control. good luck with your songs, who knows you are the next big thing.it took Gotye decades before he penetrated the US market.

I am sad that he is a one hit wonder in the US now. Americans abandoned him after 1 song.
