I guess it has been months now that I have noticed I cannot make a mental image of oeople in my mind anymore. Can you oicture your sob or daughter in your mind? I can't. Can you picture your mon or dad in your mind? I can't do that either. I can describe that my mother had glasses and she had hair like a poodle. But I can't picture her face. I can describe my dad as wearing suspenders and white hair and partially bald with hair cones over the bald spot ever so slightly. But I cannot recall his face in my mind. Yet when I see pictures if them I know them. My daughter is sleeping in the next room but I cannot picture her face either. But when I see her I know her. I'm perfectly normal but I cannot oicture their faces. My daughter winders if I am getting dementia. I'm going to my new psychiatrist and I will mention this. I don't like how my mind is firgetting so much. Your thoughts?

it will be interesting finding out what it is. It wouldn't be dementia, I don't think but here is a list of different dementias, I skimmed through them but didn't see anything that sounds what you have http://www.medicinenet.com/dementia/page9.htm

here are the symptoms of mild early stage alzheimers Alzheimer's disease is often first diagnosed in the mild, or early, stage, when it becomes clear to family and doctors that a person is having significant trouble with memory and thinking. In the mild Alzheimer's stage, people may experience: Memory loss for recent events. Individuals may have an especially hard time remembering newly learned information and repeatedly ask the same question. Difficulty with problem solving, complex tasks and sound judgments. Planning a family event or balancing a checkbook may become overwhelming. Many people experience lapses in judgment, such as when making financial decisions. Changes in personality. People may become subdued or withdrawn — especially in socially challenging situations — or show uncharacteristic irritability or anger. Decreased attention span and reduced motivation to complete tasks also are common. Difficulty organizing and expressing thoughts. Finding the right words to describe objects or clearly express ideas becomes increasingly challenging. Getting lost or misplacing belongings. Individuals have increasing trouble finding their way around, even in familiar places. It's also common to lose or misplace things, including valuable items.

there is a condition I know called prosopagnosia but then you would not recognize anybodies face when you see it so it doesn't seem to be that either. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/prosopagnosia/Prosopagnosia.htm we studied all these brain disorders in university

Dr F said I didn't have Alzheimers even though t had a hard time counting backward from 100 with minus 7s. He had me subtract in my head from 100 and I had a difficult time but I did it. He asked me to explain certain sayings and I knew what they meant but couldn't say them. He would say some saying like 'he's driving at a snail's pace' or something. Sone I could explain but others I couldn't. I hope this new doc can help me.

Are you on any new or recently new medications? Some of them can cause strange things to happen with our memory, especially if they alter our brain chemistry in some way. Fortunately, I can still picture people in my mind. I can remember just about everything. The main issue I have with my brain is that I usually have trouble recalling something when I want or need to. I KNOW it's rolling around in my noggin somewhere but just can't find it the moment I need it. I always remember it a few seconds to a few minutes later so I doubt it dementia. I think it's more of a side-effect of one or two of the medications I'm on. I hope that's your case, too.

Try not to get down. That doesn't sound like dementia. Dementia would be if someone showed you a picture of them and you didn't know who they were. Or if you couldn't remember anything about them.

Hello again PQ! :) Oh, I think it's part of aging. Sometimes I also can't picture other people's faces in my mind. only those who seems special to me, I can remember. I think seeing a psychiatrist or something will help you with that. I have my father whose 2 years older than you and i think he still can picture image in his mind. I hope things would be better for you...

Try to close your eyes, relax and empty your thoughts, then exercise a little everyday like 5 minutes, or maybe 2 and then you increase that timing. Sometimes we just need exercise. I read a guy teaching regular people how to have photographic memory, he was a soldier and it seems they learn how to do it, he said we have to train minutes everyday and everyday we don't do it it's weeks worth of effort.

I've never even been able to remember names. Weeks after meeting people I'd still have to ask them their names. My memory is very bad. Part of that I'd due to vitamin B12 deficiency. I take a shot every month but it doesnt help my memory at all. I've seen infomercials on tv. I have no idea if that can really be done. They want you to buy a program. They get rich and we are no better off. I try to keep my brain active as a writer but that is getting mire difficult too.

It is not that difficult to carve out images of your kith and kin in your mind. The portrayal of the near and the dear ones should be in your minds. How could anyone efface the familiarity associated with their immediate relatives?
