From house to apartment

I have relocated for work and went from owning my own house to renting an apartment for three times what my mortgage is. I feel like a failure and that I'm going down in the world. Not to insult anyone who lives in an apartment but it just hurts from going to owning my house to not being able to afford one now. I now live in an expensive city and it's hard to deal with things costing so much more than where I was before. I think I made a mistake. How would you feel losing your house and living in an apartment, storage is a big issue I'll say that

I know exactly how you feel Randy and I had to move from our house (we owned) to now living with my parents. Randy had lost his job and then he had hurt his foot to the point where he cannot work at all. We are fighting to get disability and once we do we can get housing and save up to buy a home. We are looking to move out of state so we can live in the country. I miss the country life and the city life is hard for us. I know where I live now is expensive as well. I will be working eventually (as soon as I finish my second's Masters Degree) and then we can buy a home.

Oh that would surely make me feel depressed, but let's not dwell with 'depression' or you'll just go nuts. Perhaps you should look at the positive side of things, at least you still could afford a home and mortgage, unlike some who could barely afford food. It's good too that you still have food on your table and have a decent job. Don't worry, things happen for a reason just do your best and you'd get that house again. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I am sorry for your case...but at least you have your own apartment for living now. I don't have a house and an apartment too...i am living in expensive city too and buying a house or an apartment is still my dream only.

I think sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. Just because a job offers you more money does not guarantee its the best way to go. You have discovered that living expenses in the new city you live in are far more than what you can afford. at this point you've already made the decision, so my suggestion to you would be to find a place you can feel comfortable with, for now your best option is to rent, but maybe you'll be able to find another place you can call a home.

When we first moved to Australia we rented an apartment. At the time, it was the best option for us since we needed time to be familiar with the new place before we could decide where to buy a house. We had to keep some of our belongings in a rented storage as we also lived in a house before we moved in to the apartment. I don't know about your situation, but in our case all the struggle we went through with the relocation was all worth it. At the end, we were able to make the most of the situation and happy with our decision to move after all. Perhaps if you see that your work that forced you to move is well worth the consequences, you will probably find ways to make the new living arrangement work for you sooner or later. All the best.
