my son's Xbox just broke. He is getting a new one. It is on sale for 60.00 less. Instead of paying $469.00 for all the things he wants on it it will be about 399.00 before tax. We pay two taxes in Quebec, the federal tax will be 19.00 but the Quebec tax is another 39.00 it is just ridiculous. Are the taxes were you live reasonable or ridiculous

Trust me winter rose, it is not just where you live. Here in the Eastern US we also pay taxes on every tiny thing. It is ridiculous. I could give you a very long list of the taxes we pay. You can't breathe here without getting taxed you are not alone.

Hi ms. rose, I lived in the Philippines and we have A 12% value added tax (VAT) of the gross selling price or gross value in money of the goods is imposed to all importation, sale, barter, exchange or lease of goods or properties and sale of services.

well, we are in Ontario and we pay 13% which often ups the cost of what it would have been if we had paid the federal and provincial taxes separately, so i don't know if it is any better. i think i would rather have no tax because the government just seems to waste it anyways.

let see, you buy something at 100.00, so 13 percent would mean you are paying 113.00 all together. Now I buy something for 100.00 5 percent 5.00 federal tax makes it 105.00 plus 9.50 provincial tax 9.98 comes up to a total of 114.98 but it grows as you know the higher the item is priced/ You are right the government just wastes it. for my son's new xbox you would have paid 51.87 in tax and my son paid 60 in tax

Hi Winter We live in NH and there is no sales tax which is very cool. Yes that tax is over the top ridiculous. I have often shopped in a nearby state that does have a sales tax. it is so small though and it never amounts to more than a few dollars and that would only be if you are buying a real expensive item. Your son should have travelled to NH....my daughter's just held a yard sale and one of them got rid of her xbox that had hardly been used for 20.00. We all got after her and told her that it was worth much more but she just wanted to get rid of it. I know the man she sold it to and she guaranteed that it was in good working order. He came into the store I work at yesterday and told me to let her know that it worked great.

he wouldn't have bought a second hand one, he has the top of line latest model. Maybe it would have been cheaper in Ontario, but he has no transportation there and back.

I too live in Montreal, and it can be ridiculous how much we have to pay in taxes. There are benefits to it, but it can still be very frustrating.

especially when the federal sales tax is 5 percent and the quebec is 9.5 after the federal sales tax has already been applied to the charge of the item. Charest is robbing us blind.

Winterose, here in North Carolina we pay a state tax on all things sold. It is normally 7% of the total sale. This is more reasonable than what you are having to pay. I hate that you get taxed twice. When we make money we get taxed by both the state and the federal government.
