Are their limits to what a parent should do to protect their children from harm?

A mother who was caught smuggling cocaine into Bali now faces the death penalty however she claims she had to commit this crime to save the lives of her two sons. If she is telling the truth should her life be spared as she was only doing what comes naturally to a parent or is a crime a crime regardless. And how about if she is lying and she is simply trying to bail her sons out, who are grown-up and should know better, because they have got themselves caught up in drugs. If she is lying does this make her crime even worse because she is prepared to lie so brazenly to the police about something as serious as her sons welfare? Also should there be limits on what a parent is prepared to do for their child or would you do anything?
