How acurate is google map?

Hi fellow mylotters, usually I'm not a backpack tourist type but I'm considering to backpacking my trip to Thailand for the end of this year, yeay!. I just want to know, how much we can depend on google map for arranging our trip? I know I can always ask direction to the local citizens, but this is Thailand, not a country with major english speaking. I have to prepare my own backup, I hope google will satisfy me. What do you think?

It's only accurate for famous or countries and cities ...

The map is great but don't take it for it's directions. The "quickest" way is not always the quickest.

That's what I've been wandering about. I need the accurate directions for my trip, like from my hotel to market or certain places. Thanks for the info.

Just the map itself if very accurate. I mean i search for my home on it and i live in the Azores, those little islands that belong to portugal and i saw my house very clearly.
