I've left reality and entered disterbia...

So, I was at a job site today and the main boss was shouting orders at a foulmouthed man. I just waited my turn to get my part of the job done when, this guy, out of nowhere started yelling at me like I was some sort of demon. He said, "when the gates of hell will swallow you up, there will be no returning for you," and "I have six angels that watch over me, and you aint gonna get me fired, boy!!!" I just stood there, and shook my head at his odd behavior. When the day was over he told me that he had a vision at work that I was telling the boss lies about him. I had no idea what he was talking about because it was only my second day with this company, and I had never seen him before. I told him that he had me confused with someone else, and just fired back at me like I was plotting against him. I just left the site scratching my head, and told myself to keep as far away as I could from this fellow until my job was finished. I know this guy is disturbed, and maybe I will make things worse if I tried to talk to him about how I am not trying to get him fired. Part of me wants to just talk to him about it, and part of me wants to just find another jobsite. What do you all think? If it ends up being a few months where I am and this continues, what should I do? I mean I have never had to put up with this sort of strangeness before. Thanks for your feed back.

The next time this happens I would record this on my phone. Then you will have proof. He is obviously disturbed and I am surprised he is even still employed there, that really is very odd that he manages to do his job. There is no way you should have to put up with this. Either call someone over, call attention to it or like I said, record it. If you don't have a phone with video this situation would be worth investing in it.

Your welcome and I'm relieved to hear this is not a permanent situation for you. It really does simply amaze me how someone that bonkers can manage to keep a position without someone noticing. Let me know how it works out for you, sounds like this guy needs professional help.

Well the story now is that I have not seen him in two days. I asked a few of the guys if they knew him, they said they did but he was off for a few days. I will get back when I know more..

It's great to know that you don't work full time in that site. I guess it would be a lot helpful if you could avoid him at all cost, for your own safety. Anyway as you said, you could leave the place anytime. To save your reputation, maybe you could create alibis (emergency meeting, schedule, urgent matter to attend to, family affair, etc.) to just come back at a later time or a later date when you see him and you feel that a "collision" might happen between the two of you. Hope things will be better on the coming days. Best of luck.

Thank you mykmari_08. I am happy that the job is only for a short time. I have not seen him, but was told he was not there. I am not sure that this job will last long so I am just hoping he will not be there when the job is over.

I would not confront him directly. If he believes what he's saying, it would only make things worse. Personally, I would try to avoid him if at all possible. Surely others have heard or will hear him. Hang in there unless it looks like he really will get you fired or worse, become violent.

Hello, peavey. :) Well, the beauty of contracting is that I can leave at any time, but, I would have a tarnished rep. And I just started my business, so it will not look good. But, I do know what you mean, because I know directly confronting him will make matters worse. As I said in the post above, he may be thinking I am the "new guy", when in reality I am not really part of the team. I will stay away form him. But if he starts up again tomorrow, Ill have to tell him I do not work for his company,or whatever to get him to settle down. I rally dont know if others heard him, because we were outside. He came up to me directly. So, maybe he wants a confrontation??? Thanks and have a great day.

Maybe he is crazy or maybe he's just pulling a joke on you since you are the new guy. If he is crazy I would leave. No telling what he is capable of.

Hello, redhotpogo. I dont work "for" the company, because I am a contractor, but I do work with them. I can leave at any time and not have to worry about getting "fired", but it will hurt my reputation. Maybe he thinks I am the "new guy", so that would help him out to know that I am only a contractor. It might ease his mind. But I will see what happens tomorrow, because I have an all day project with them. UGH!!! Thanks for your response.
