My son's school is wanting him to attend summer school or be retained for the 6th grade. He failed one class by one percentage point. The class being Math. He was once pretty good at it until he had a bad teacher and now it is like pulling teeth. He has a natural ability with it but he does not want to show his work or explain how he got it. 90 percent of the time it is the correct answer. When he shows his work he makes a careless mistake and he gets it wrong. Tomorrow I go and talk with the principal and the teacher. I feel that he should be moved on because he does know. It is one percentage point and when talking with all my teacher friends they say they need to bump it because retaining him will not benefit him and may get him even more discouraged with school. I go in at 10 am so hopefully I can convince the school to let him move on.

Oh Keasling, so sorry to hear that...I truly know what its like to for your child to have a teacher who is not fair...I won't call them bad,,but I do know what you are saying, and I do think the communication between student and teacher has a great effect on the child.... Good luck to you and him tomorrow...I believe when you go and voice your concerns, everything will be ok...hopefully..... Much luck to your son......

That stinks. I do believe that at one percentage point it is at the discretion of the teacher. In fact, it seems the norm to average up from one percentage point. I am wishing you luck and all the best in discussing the matter with the principal and the teacher.
