I know a certain handyman who is very good in his trade, honest, and quite a nice person. He took me to his place to pick up some material one day, and I saw plenty of things such as used furniture, second hand appliances, and other not-so-new household goods stored inside his storage room.
He explained that his clients often needed some jobs done but did not have money to pay him. They usually are the elderly, pensioners, or widows. He does not have the heart to turn the job down especially if he knows it is something urgent and he has the ability to help them.
Often those clients would offer to give him some goods instead of money in return for his services; and he is fine with that. I did not quite realize that barter system still exist today until I met this man. I cannot help thinking maybe bartering today is actually more common than I thought...

Hi Sishy7, actually I had almost the same experience. Im making brooches and accesories, the herbal drink seller whom I always buy her jamu every morning interested to buy it but she said she doesnt have money. I told her, she may take it and pay anytime she wants. And guess what, she decided to give free herbal drink every morning for 15 days. My mom was confused when the girl refused to be paid for the herbal drink, after I told her the condition she was laughing so hard.

Yes, exactly like that... It does still exist today.
And somehow I think it creates friendship more than when just money is exchanged.
I wonder if similar situation happens somewhere else...
