Hello MyLotters, When I was younger, I wasn't sure what I wanted to be. No one had ever asked me that question.... As an adult, I have decided to (FINALLY) start college, and now I'm working hard to become a Psychiatrist. My kids deserve the best out of this life, and so do I! :-) Question: Who had big deals and actually had the determination and support to accomplish them? Did you choose a different path in life? Are you happy with your choices? Thank you for taking time to read and answer below if you wish.

hi jenac1984. i wish you well in your studies and endeavors to be a psychiatrist! it is great that you have set this goal for yourself and your family! however, i don't know of many youngsters (except maybe lucy in charlie brown comics) who dream of becoming a psychiatrist when they grow up! i always wanted to be a ballerina when i was a small girl! but i grew up to be a mental health counselor, and now have become an artist! i never thought i could or would be either of these things, but who knows what life has in store for any of us! looking back now, i realize i only wanted to be a ballerina because i liked their costumes, so now, i can just wear these costumes all around the house if i want!

I too have never met someone who had the desire to become a psychiatrist at a young, chilhood age..hehe. You know, I think growing up and witnessing the pain of other's mental illnesses has captured my attention and pulled me into this direction. I want to inspire others and give them a reason, a friend and a way to deal with their problems they face each day. Many mental disorders stem from birth. It saddens me and also drives me to accomplish my goals. I just recently watched videos on Jani...If you have the time, please check out her videos on Youtube. I admire your strength to become a counselor. The job field is in high demand. There truely are not enough resources out there for people and families who seek mental health help and information. As far as your costume parties..haha I have a 6 year old girl that absolutely loves dressing us both up! I get to do the hair and she loves doing make-up... :) Thanks for responding.

When I was younger and when someone asked me that question, I always reply what was told to me to do when I grow up--"a nurse". Now I am taking Information Technology for college because I thought want to do in my career all of my hobbies: Imaging, Surfing, Research, programming and fixing things, etc. But none the less, I do not want any profession that requires me to work under or for anyone else. My personality does not allow me to work under another person who I know nothing about--like a boss of employer. I merely go to college to satisfy my father and grandparents. My mom and siblings understands me. I want to be able to have the option to work and not to work because I think if I only work my butt off for the rest of my life to pay a small ceiling over my head then that is not life for me...

Hello SinfulRose, There is nothing at all wrong with wanting to be your own boss, and I applaud you for going to college. Experience is so important, especially if you decide to have your own business. It's nice that you have your mother and syblings there by your side for support. You can be whomever you choose to be and you can do anything you set your mind to! It's great that you want to be your own leader. I also want to establish my own private practice when I finish college. Yet, I still have a long road ahead of me. I also love photography. It's peaceful and therapeutic. Have a nice day and keep working hard to accomplish those goals!

Oh, I will be working hard alright. I just hope that I can let go of my regret of going to college--because seriously, I don't like going to a school that will only teach me how to become an employee. Although I agree that experience is one's greatest teacher, I find that I can't get the necessary experience that I would want to experience in school. Because there is no way they can teach me how to make myself money--the reason is because they know next to nothing about it. But anyways, the least I can get from my going to school is learning my way around computers. I don't know about photography much since I don't do the shooting myself. My group-mates usually just give me the pictures. I only know how to edit and enhance them...or degrade them. By imaging, I mean vector art and drawing from scratch--that's my hobby and forte.

Well Lampar, those sound like wonderful goals to have! Being yourself is the 1st step and you already seem to have accomplished that! Just keep true to yourself. I also like that you wish to become a leader instead of a follower. Having dreams and actually working towards them is what it takes to become successful. Just don't give up, as I am sure just by reading your post that you are very bright and self-motivated. Those are great qualities to have! Thank you for your comment!

When growing up every kid in my class wanted to be a pastor or teacher! I went to a regiligious grade school! When I got older I want to work with horses. I wanted to own and run a stable. Do boarding and give lessons. I never went to school for this even though I wanted to but my paerents were't kin on it! I started off doing factory jobs. Then I got the change to work around horses cleaning stalls and doing feedings. After a few years of that I was sick of it! It was not what I wanted to do as a career! Then I got a job as a dishwasher and moved my way up to a cook. That was my calling! Right now I am back being a dishwasher! Where I work now I do get a chance to cook and do prep from time to time. I am content with my job and maybe someday I can be a cook, full time again! If not I am fine doing what I do!

When I was a little girl, there were a lot of things that I wanted to do with my life. I aspired to be a pediatrician, a published writer and a mother. Now I'm 32 years old and I've actually achieved two of those three goals. I write articles and publish them online and I'm working on a novel as well. I'm also mother to the two best children in the world. I did decide to give up the dream of being a doctor, however, when I was 22-years-old and found out that I was pregnant with my oldest daughter.

I appluad you greatly for your hard work and dedication to make those dreams a reality. You are still very young. You never know what life may bring to the table for you. I am so happy you became a mother, as you had dreamed of doing for such a long time. Being a mother is the best accomplishment us women could ever achieve, as well as the greatest gift from God above! I am also a writer. I have a natural gift to writer poetry, as well as short stories. I may share some poetry in the near future. Do you write poetry at all? I'm also proud of you for working so hard on your novel. Thanks for sharing your story with me!

Hello JenAC1984 It is good to know ones' direction in life. Congratulations to you for this. When I was younger, I wanted to own a bar in Fiji, right on the beach. Even though I do not drink, I thought it would be nice to be outside on the beach, and tend bar as I got to meet people from all over the world. Alas, I still have not accomplished this dream. Instead, I went through four years of college, followed by seven more years of graduate and post-graduate school to do something about which I feel passionate. Sometimes, however, I still think about the Fijian dream...

Hello and thank you for commenting. Here recently I have also had the desire to live near the beach. It would be nice to see my children building sand castles and collecting sea shells instead of just talking about it. We are soon planning a trip. We need away for awhile. Freedom and different surroundings! The idea of being a bar tender/owner is a brilliant choice! Shrimp and Corona sounds like a party to me! Send me an invitation when you decide to open that bar! :-) You are right, we never know what is just around the corner just waiting for us! I too dream of meeting all sorts of people from different countries. One day I hope to also get the chance to take my kids around the world as well. Congrats on sticking to a plan and completing college! That's wonderful! :-)

Thank you. I have been fortunate to live near the beach for most of my life, so have spent a lot of time on the beach, in the sea, shrimping in the marsh, etc. I wish you all the best as you endeavor to fulfill the dreams and hopes that you have for yourself and your family.
