I went shopping today for an assortment of herbs for Marco, and grabbed a caatnip plant for all the cats and even Marco.
My cats like the dried store boughten kind and go nuts over it. At first they were iffy about it.
My Moms one cat ran out the store, straight for the plant and just rubbing his face on it. I took a leaf and brought it inside and left the rest sniff it and bite it. They were iffy about it at first then they are all chasing me around trying to lick my fingers.
I may have to go buy another one of these plants the next day Im working.

Sounds like they defiantly like it that's for sure only 3 of my cats arebig on catnip I think it's because it grows wild all around my place so the three that go out all the time are so used to it that it doesn't get to thembut the 2 that stay inside and the old one who doesn't wonder far from the house they go crazy for the stuff I think I'm going to buy them a couple plants as well and my rabbits absolutely love the stuff as well

I know my Mom pulled a few plants out of the ground. She then after realized it was catnip and her cat goes over there all the time. I may buy a couple more plants as my Moms cat loves it, and my 3 love it. I am planning on letting Marco try it this weekend.

I have the plant too and my cat doesn't even seem to go near it or know what it is, but if I break off a leaf and rub it around in my hands trying to get the scent out more and let her sniff it, she sort of 'gets it', and starts to want to eat it, or play with it just alittle. The same with her catnip toy I made her with the dried catnip in it from another plant I had last year, she was playing with it for a few days and then maybe the scent lost it's powerfulness and she just ignores it now.

Thats what happens in my case as well. My cats all just sat there staring at me until I broke a piece off and rubbed it around their nose. I bought them this frog catnip toy and after a few days they ignored it. I may get the catnip spray or try to make my own from the plant and spray some of their toys and see if it works.

Catnip is a stable I grow in my garden. It is a member of the mint family and is good for herbal tea. I pick two mint leaves and one catnip leaf, wash in cool water, place in a teacup, pour hot boiling water over them, cover cup and steep for about 3-5 mins. I like adding local honey as a sweetener. It is soooo good, mmm!
It is the perfect pick-me-up when I'm feel under the weather.
Cats, especially males, love catnip. In the summer my cats use to lie in the garden among the catnip to cool off. It is very easy to grow but, like mint, must be contained because it will grow everywhere like a weed. Yes, as long as you have catnip, you'll have happy cats (and apparently rabbits too, LOL!).

Mine love catnip as well. I bought a few toys with a velcro opening. You just replace the catnip when it gets old. They love that. Mine also like Valerian, I pour out half the bottle of pills into something else. Then I put a little cloth in there with the pills and leave it there for a few days.
It absorbs the smell. They go nuts, they roll around on the cloth and rub their faces on it. It has an energizing as well as a kind of sedative effect on them. I am going to plant some catnip this summer as well. I noticed they have a packet of seeds at Walmart.
