Cats especially in Africa is seen mostly as animals that evil spirits use to attack household may be because of their scary look and cat-sound. People prefer more of dog as a pet in Africa than cat. There is a strong believe that dogs can be more controlled and close to man than cat. But in Asia such as Malaysia and other western countries, cat is one of the most common pets and loved. So I wonder why is it so and what is seen from that perspective. Fellow mylotters, i would like to see contributions to this

Some people seen cat as a good luck, and god, but some people see black cat as a sign of bad luck, many people in africa , especially the people who always hunting prefer like dog for pet because they help them catch their prey, in asia, most of them are not hunter , and they like cat because they adorable, and make them cute pet

Yes it is just a rumor and I would imagine there are many false rumors still persisting in Africa because of the lack of education, isolation and poverty. I am really surprised in 2012 this type of prejudice exists in the world. But look, there is still a huge poverty and aids problem in Africa so this doesn't surprise me. When I heard of the force feeding of children to fatten them because a fat woman is desired in Mauritania, Africa it made me and makes me sick. So this silly thing about cats doesn't surprise me. I would fly there if I could to try to educate these people. If I didn't have children and had the financial means and connections like a celebrity status I would. I don't understand your question about how many black colors I know. And who put the stupid Malaysian in the tag? I doubt it was the person who asked the question because he is in Malaysia, that wasn't very nice.

Oh and to chic the person who asked the question, movie makers made them scary to make money on horror movies, that scary cat thing is so old and outdated I can't even believe Steven King used it in pet cemetery. Mine all have different faces and I can tell them apart. Some have beautiful green wide eyes and one has small eyes with puffy cheeks. One has this totally misplaced white spot on her side of white. No other white, just that cute little white spot. One has a tiny little patch of white on her chest and one has just ONE gray whisker because she's getting old, it sticks out on her face, it's impossible to miss. And not once in 15 years has one ever made that stupid scary cat shrieking sound. The most is a hiss when one gets on another's nerves. But for the most part they get along amazingly well.

Cats many many years ago where the original pet of humans, dogs where seen as vermin which carried diseases. Cats where also seen as Gods and very sacred in many ancient cultures. Today I think cats are a prefered pet because they are easy to keep, loving and very clean (compared to dogs). People seem to have very varied opinions of cats and either love them or hate them, personally I will always have a cat as a pet they are loving and loyal and make excellent pets they also seem to have very strong instincts and sense of being. In saying that alot of pet owners in western countries arnt looking for an animal that can be controlled more an animal which can be a companion and part of the family.
