There are certain misconceptions about leave of absence that I've heard from some of my colleagues. They said that they would be filing for a leave when they came back to work after the training. So I answered that provided that we are allowed so because there are still a lot of things to do in preparation for the next that we have. So they told me, why it is our right to file a leave? So I told them Leave of absence is not a right, its a mere privilege given to employees but subject to the approval of the head and can be recalled in the exigency of service.

Whether it is a right or not, I think we can look at the work contract between you and the employer. The contract states that, I think. what do you say?

Hi yanzalong! I just want to emphasize that right is something that we have by the time we were born like the right to eat, breathe, water ,etc. While the privilege is something that is given to us by a higher authority which can be taken back and requires an approval before we could exercise it.

I think the leave of absence that is offered with some jobs is a rule that is offer to employees which make it a right as far as I am concern... If it is not offered then its not a right n or privilege.

for me, leave of absence is an employee's right and not a privilege. An employee do have a choice to file for their leave and when they want to take a day off. It is of course somehow reliant to the person who will approve the leave... But they are for formality's sake, because of course, according to the law, the company should not withhold an employee's right to take a leave of absence...
