The Real Job Loses in Wisconsin

It seems that Gov. Walker is talking about the jobs created but not the jobs lost. Forget the fact that the only teachers laid off were ones that the Union refused to negotiate the contracts. The real job loses are in the paid staff the the Unions. It seems that Union (or ex union members) members are voting with their feet and walking away from the Union. The Public sector unions have lost 20%, 30% and close to 50% of their members because they aren't paying dues. The Teachers Union had to lay off 42 people from their staff. Where is the solidarity? Unions are spending millions to defeat Gov. Walker but don't have money to pay their employees? I thought Unions were all about protecting employees from the big bad management or maybe it is only when management is not a Union.

It will be interesting to see how many come back when it comes time to negotiate the next contract. Why should they pay their dues when the union already did the work for them. Once they start to negotiate on their own they will realize how hard it is, and come crawling back. We have none union charter schools here in Ohio, and their retention rate is 50% A YEAR!!! Most of them leave these jobs for union jobs that treat their teachers better.

After Act 10 went into effect the Union came around and tried to get teachers to sign up for Dues deductions form their checking account. A friend of mine told me that after the meeting several teachers were talking and wondering if the Union rep was selling the Union or the fact that if they didn't sign up he would be out of a job. He did not give them a reason to join the Union that would benefit them. In fact some teachers found some professional groups that would provide the liability insurance and legal help for less that half of a month of the Union dues. The membership is getting fed up with the high salaries of Union Leaders. In this school the area Union rep was paid more than the highest paid Superintendent of School, they had a car provided, 100% Health Insurance, dental Insurance, Retirement, and Legal Services. They are salaried but get either comp time or pay if they work more than 8 hours in a day and ar not docked if they take off for personal or medical apt. The members are fed up with paying for this when other teachers are getting laid off and the Union does nothing to prevent that. I think if the schools negotiate in good faith the Unions will have a tough time making a come back.

Bob, what is the difference between a union head making six figures and a superintendent? The union boss probably isn't double dipping like the superintendent is. These people may be mad about the union bosses making all of that money, but look at all of the double dippers out there, and if it wasn't for those union bosses they wouldn't have as good as they do. Like I said, we will see how this works out for those that leave the union.

Bob, do you have any friends that own businesses there? I work for a company that is run by all far right wingers, but they say one thing often: Don't bite the hand that feeds you!!! That means if you are dealing with cities and they cut their budgets and you are supplying them, than that could mean trouble for you. If these teachers make less that means they will have less money to spend on eating out, vacations, all of the excesses that good paying jobs supply. Not to mention if they don't make a living wage they will be working a second job which takes away from the job pool. This is really about politics, and power. Once you realize that you will be better off Bob!!!

Unions are like the mafia as far as I am concerned. They do a favor for the member and for life, that member has to do their bidding. They are political thugs, in it for the wealth, not the common man. They've run so many companies to the ground, and are trying to do the same to America as a country. If you demand more than the company can pay, the company goes bankrupt and you have nothing. Why not work for less, and the company survives and you may have less, but at least still have something. GM is perfect example of how unions ruin things for everyone. We are paying for the mess the unions made of the auto industry. AND the unions got the best of the bailout, and the secured stock holders who did nothing wrong, got squat.

With Governor Walker winning in Wisconsin we may see more Gov. willing to take on the Unions and take back control over the cost of Public employees. In Wisconsin Union membership has dropped dramatically after the employers no longer collected the Dues for the Unions but made the Union collect the Dues from the people. Union membership has fallen by as much as 50% in some Unions. Members are voting with their Dues and not paying them.

I stayed up late to watch the results. And I live in Missouri. lol I have no respect for the unions, and I grew up in a family that voted democrat. My brother in law made a couple of million (yes Million) running two companies, one a land development company and one a contruction company. This resession ruined him. And now he and my sister are in their seventies with barely enough to live. Unions helped make that happen. They weren't the main cause, but he has told me some horror stories of the years he spent dealing with them. Having been an employer of thousands, he knows. He came up through the ranks and he treated his employees well. But it didn't matter to the union bosses, he was the 'enemy' and they took him down. How is that right in any way?

Don't worry Bob. Your guy won. I won't even go into the disgust of all the out a state money it took him to win. That is just our political system and is all legal. It is a dirty system but legal none the less. I know Democrats could of done the same thing for their guy. They chose not to. Lets just say in decade or so all the unions will probably be gone, or a none factor, which is what the Republicans want. I know you guys hate the income inequality subject. You do realize the U.S. is the 5th worst country in the world between the rich and miidle class in incomes. That means there is a slew of corrupt countries who do care for its people that are ahead of us. That does not scare you one bit? Now with the unions out of the way which is really the last workforce of people who could band together to keep from being shafted by the amount of work they do and a fair wage. No unions weren't perfect and had a lot of bad leaders who were using its profits for the wrong reasons. Just like most every other big business in this country. The decline of the middle class is just imminent at this point.
