Comfort or Style

Do you dress with comfort or style in mind? I know it depends on the occasion, where you're going and what the function is as to how you dress, but generally speaking, do you prefer comfort over style? I think we've all been in a situation where we go to great pains (literally) to look good only to find that our outfit/dress/shoes or whatever is just sooo uncomfortable it's almost unbearable. This is so evident when you see people who can barely walk in their shoes or who are always stopping to adjust their clothing, tug at their dress that is too short, fix their hair etc. So, what's your style?

It depends where I'm going and who I'm likely to meet. If I'm just doing house work in the morning for example then I am always going to go for comfort. Also, if I need to go to the shops and I'm not planning to see anyone who I know, then I will more than likely just wear my lounge pants and a comfy top. However, if I am going out, I will sometimes wear something that it is a little tight if it looks good. I will never wear heels though, because I find it hard to walk in them, and I see no need to be in pain when you could look almost as good in something else.

I don't wear high heels either, not because of comfort but because I am considered tall and it makes me feel awkward if I add heels to my height. If I wear even 2 inch heels I'm taller than a lot of people (women AND men both). And then, of course, if I am feeling self-conscious about my height I tend to slouch, which looks terrible. So, it's my comfortable flats for me!

Hi Suebee At least for me, fashion wasnt happening anyway. Since a kid I am allergic to all those synthetic clothes and have always been confined to cotton and 100% cotton. That reduces some of the options. Then, I always loved wearing oversized dresses. I have been such a skeleton ever that if I thought of wearing those tight fitting ones, I am sure many would have a heartache or some might even faint and I am a peace loving person. When I was working or even studying, there were formal codes which I always tried to follow (barring those where they didnt exist). Today, when I am at home, I wear shorts, tees even if I look horrible and scary. But I love wearing those. We have a saying here - Dress as others want you to but eat what you prefer... however for me it has been the other way - I eat as per others (those doctors) and dress as per my choice... Balance maintained

I'm the same way. I like to be comfortable, especially in my own home, but also when I go out. I wear a uniform to work so I don't have to be concerned with work clothes, only that my uniform is a comfortable fit. As for going out, I mostly wear jeans unless it's a more formal occasion. Then I like to dress up but comfort is still the main issue for me.

I hardly go anywhere these days so I dress for comfort. I used to be out and about and I dressed basically for both. A casual style and comfort. I hate feeling all tied up with clothes. It gets real uncomfortable and I get cranky. And yes it does depend on where I am going and what I have to do.

I prefer casual to dressed up myself but if the occasion calls for it, I do dress up. I try to find something both stylish and comfortable but I'd have to say that comfort is more important to me.

I often wear jeans, and i need it comfort, i don't need it is stylish.... However when wearing dress, i want it looks fashion and updated with shoes. I have some pair of shoes with different colors, so that i can mixed it with dress' color...

I love jeans because I am quite slim, and wearing jeans makes me look fatter a bit,...

I practically live in jeans as well...and I don't go for the stylish one. My favourite jeans are about 10 years old but verryyyy comfortable, lol

Hi Suebee, When I was younger I tried to be fashionable. Now, it's all about comfort for me. Even if it's a special occasion and I need to "dress up" I'm much happier if I'm comfortable in my clothes.

It's true eh? When we're younger we tend to dress to impress and when we get older it's all about comfort.

I wear anything which is both comfortable and style. But i also agree it is more or less based on the occasion and things like that.I do wear whats comfortable if i am going to local store or walking to the nearby places. One of the reasons is not to overuse the style clothes and things and ending their life fast.Plus, it also helps us in keeping our taste for certain clothes and colors in mind for long.Atleast, thats has been the case for me.I do not wear anything which is uncomfortable. It would make us too stressed and worse it could lead to more problematic situations.Instead even if its not stylish, its ok to be comfortable with things. And when it comes to style,i ensure i follow the middle path of things..I do not want to be too stylish unless the occasion calls for things.I have also seen people going through things as you have mentioned. At times, its funny too.But whatever occasion be it, i ensure i wear appropriate clothing and ensure proper etiquette in things. Thanks!

I agree that it definitely depends on the occasion. I think it comes with age as well. I admit that when I was younger I wore stylish dresses that were not all that comfortable. As I have aged however, comfort has out weighed the desire to be stylish.

In every occasion I prefer to wear clothes where I am comfortable. I can't imagine myself punishing for uncomfortable clothes all because of fashion :p Yah, I also observed the same thing where people stop to pull a dress, or feeling uneasy because of their clothes, Same thing with shoes, some ladies had to end up barefoot due to legs stress of pain :p

Yes, I just don't get it when I see someone who is obviously very uncomfortable with what they're wearing. I think some people put way too much emphasis on looks.

My motto is be yourself. So I would be dressed in a comfortable way though it has a style on it. We can also combine the two, isn't it? He he

Comfort, always. Sure, there are some 'uniforms' for certain occasions; but I usually wear what 'feels right,' or what my woman needs me to wear.

Always best to wear what feels right. Of course there are some occasions, as you mentioned, where a certain dress is required but I still try to feel comfortable even on those occasions.

It's all about comfort for me. I can still dress in comfortable clothes even in formal occasions. I don't wear something I'm not comfortable in. I usually see other people too who are wearing high heels on the streets but I can see that they're not comfortable in it, some people wear too short clothes and they keep pulling it down.

Yes, people who are constantly adjusting their clothing are obviously not comfortable in what they're wearing. I'd much rather be comfortable.

I prefer to wear something that make me feel comfortable, style is number two because at least i can mix and match the dress with accesories or jewelry so i dont have to worry about not being fashionable. I think if we wear a comfortable clothes and walk with confident looks, we can look fashionable and stylist. I too see so many people try to wear latest fashion but end up looks terrible because they are not comfortable with what they wear.

It's true that it doesn't look good on the person if they're not comfortable in it. I see it all too often, especially on younger people.

Definitely comfort!! I've had so many uncomfortable and embarrassing fashion mistakes and I definitely have learned from them. I will always choose comfort over style. Of course, these days, there are so many fashion brands put there that it is not very hard to find clothes that are both very stylish and comfortable. But if I was given a choose of lousy but stylish killer high heels or boring but comfortable flats...I am going for the flats. Don't want to fall down while walkin anytime soon xD

Much the same as myself. One can usually find something that is comfortable yet somewhat stylish.

Normally when I attend on special occasion, I do venture on pulling of a great piece. However, I also consider comfortability regardless of the style. Comfort is much important because if you don’t feel comfy on what you are wearing, you end up fxing your clothes throughout the event. I also consider wearing minimal, not too outlandish, not to sparky; just the right amount of ensembles and also consider chic and classy modern styles.

It's true that if you're not comfortable you spend the whole evening fixing your clothes and looking out of place, which is not attractive anyway. I'm like you in that I don't like splashy or gaudy clothing either. Sometimes less is more.

if i were to answer: i'd rather choose comfort over style. i don't like wearing fancy clothes which irritate me. i like to live in the comfort of my own. for example, stilletos are in, but my feet are aching once i wear them, so I am not wearing those footwear, I'd rather wear slippers or doll shoes :)

I dress for both. I like to feel comfortable but look cute. However, I don't care how cute something is, if it is uncomfortable, it is going into the donation box. Plain and simple. Life is too short to be uncomfortable.

True, it's always best if you can achieve that combination. Unfortunately, I find some of the fashionable styles just too uncomfortable for my liking.

I always went for comfort even when I was young I would make style go my way and I used to design my own dress I started when I was 14 I designed my own dress by the time I was 18 I was a dress maker! if you wear your dress with comfort then you have style and poise and there is nothing better than that!

I like comfort over style. I am at the age where I rather feel comfortable then anything else. I love wearing sweatpants in the winter and a sweatshirt. In the summer, capri's with a tank top or shirt sleeve shirt. Shoes, sneakers! I don't go to alot of events were I need to dress up. So I don't need to worry about dressing up.

I don't have to dress up a lot either and when I do I opt for dress pants if I can get away with them. If the occasion demands a dress I'll find a nice, comfortable one but wear the lowest heels I can find. I'm mostly in jeans and a sweatshirt or t-shirt, and I wear a uniform to work so I don't have to worry about work clothes.

I never think about style, only comfort.I am at a age where as style do not matter one bit and that as long as I am happy in what I am wearing, that is all that really matters.I feel that people spend way to much money on the latest fashion and fashion changes really fast, so hard to be able to keep up.

For my daily outfit, I prefer comfort. I don't really care about style as long as I feel comfortable about it. In special occassion I try to find appropriate costume that still makes me feel comfortable. But I know some people who will dress in style and feel totally uncomfortable. Some people are willing to be in pain to look beautiful..

Yes, that's my point too. Some people are so fashion conscious it doesn't matter how uncomfortable or painful the outfit is, they think that it's worth it to look beautiful.

I am more on wearing comfortable clothes than fashionable clothes because I can move anything I want, not unlike in some fashionable or new style clothes your movement slightly limited. I like wearing mini skirt, shorts, blouse, rubber shoes and sandals with simple design and has a very good quality. Nowadays lots of new fashionalbe clothes, bags, shoes accesories that comes out every now and then and I found it more expensive that comfortable clothes. And also comfort clothes are always availabe around the season not like fashionable clothes you can only wear it while the style is still hot. Good luck. :)

It's true that some stylish clothing restricts movement eh? I stay away from anything like that. I find also that a lot of the fashionable clothing now looks small on the person, a look that I do not enjoy nor do I wear. I prefer quality, comfortable clothing. If it is stylish, bonus!
