Reading has always be been part of man and invention and discovery has been one of the fruitage of it. But in this generation where IT gadgets has taking time of people to exercise. My question do people actually read again or has the IT world taken the time of creativity and substituted it with pleasure and games. Also now there audio books which makes it even easier but has really shown that it can equal one bending down to dig for the author's mind

I am an avid reader and I love to read books and novels. This is my favorite past time for reading transports me to a place that I have never been in the comfort of my room. Because of the advancement in technology, reading a hard copy of books seems quite remote nowadays because there are several eBooks that you can read in several gadgets like Kindle or iPad. For me, I will continue to love reading albeit in a different way. I know I will miss turning the pages of a book feeling them on my hand but on the other hand, I welcome this because I know that this can help save the environment because it will be a paperless reading.

That's right.. reading of books through gadget and just buying them online to install them in is environment friendly. You don't anymore need buy printed books, but because of that it decreases one's collection of books in the library, which i think is still a very important part of the house or any institution.

In my opinion, reading books is a very good habit and we all should adopt it.IT gadgets,I don't think, can ever replace the importance of traditional, printed books.I use computer.I use other IT gadgets as well, but I still enjoy reading printed books.I developed the habit in my early childhood and my parents encouraged me.They used to give me money to buy any good book that I wanted to read.I began reading fairy tales and the proceeded to mythology and detective novels. Now I read books on politics and wild life.Of course,I may download and read e-books as well, but reading printed books is really a pleasure that can be felt only, not described.

Admittedly reading books through gadgets like ipads and computers provides convenience like for example increasing the fonts or brightness to make it comfortable for your eyes to read. Gadgets like these also make it possible to carry a whole library anywhere and anytime you want to read. I think there's really not much a whole world of difference of flipping the pages and coarse printed papers felt by your hand compared to the adjustable external quality of books installed on gadgets.

I still read, both print and audio. I have to say that you can't go back as easily with audio as you can with print - but I have enjoyed both kinds of books. Having said that, I read for pleasure, and both fiction and non-fiction - but if its a writer I'm maybe not quite as fond of I prefer it to be audio because I can listen to the book and do something else - like drive.

Reading as the Baconian saying goes..makes a full man. Selective reading promises to be of great help in building up your personality. Serious reading..the habit is one to be cultivated by all.

I read alot of paper books. I don't have a ipad or anything like that so I don't have a choice. Sometimes I read stuff online, but I usually read regular books. I am kind of old fashioned like my mom.

I still actually read a lot, and not on an e-reader either. lol I have always disliked audio books, because no matter what I read I 'hear' it in my mind, giving voice to characters of fiction, narrators, and even instructions and recipes. I don't think audio books offer the quality or the brain exercise of actual reading, also I think many would miss small details while listening to an audio book, that one would pick up while reading. Because when you are reading you have to concentrate and it's easier to stay on task, than when listening where your mind can wander much easier.

Reading has and always will be a very large part of my life, as will writing artiles and ebooks... Sadly it is an ability lacking in alot of young ones today due to the reasons of the gaming machines and things they have these days. But playing games is not going to get you a job when you leave school is it? You can now get books on electronic tablets if you still want to be a techno geek and read, but i dont think it will ever replace the real enjoyment of reading a book that you hold in your hands.

We recently bought a reader and as much as I love it, it will never replace the printed word on actual paper for me. And there is nothing like browsing through a bookstore with that great paper smell, book covers and of course coffee. I really thought that people were going to become less educated when it came to reading but now that I have lived through fifteen years of the internet age I realize that many people, who might have never picked up a book other than what they were forced to read, get a really good education in reading, spelling and grammar from the internet so I changed my mind about it. If only there wasn't so much misinformation on the internet we would be better off. The audio books, sometimes I think are even better because you hear the cadences in the readers voice that you might have not put into the sentences yourself when reading. So they are putting emphasis in the areas where they are supposed to be which gets the sentence words point across to the reader better than when you're reading it yourself so I like audio for that reason.

Hello Chikezie I often wonder this very thing. As for me, I love to read. I've always been a reader and cannot imagine not being. I would wilt were I not to be able to read. I prefer to read real books, but have also grown to appreciate ereaders (not computers), for their convenience of having many books at my fingertips in a small package, for the lighting of them, and for the environmental friendliness of them (less trees killed.) I do not like audio books, but I have been known to listen to them on a long drive. I am a very visual person and do not respond well to having someone read to me.

For books that is too good to pass to a friend I still buy the paperback books. And It's always a habit for me to lend books the one that really touches my heart or excites me. Also for books that I think my kids will love and will read in the future I still buy the paperback. But also I love ebooks on ipad iphone or kindle whatever. You can bring lots of books with you to read anywhere in your spare time according to your mood. Like during coffee break or lunch time or even on the train, I don't want to read a very touching story that I'm sure I can't hold on my tears. I will look soo weird...lol I'm not into audio books I don't know why I can't feel the whole story.
