I know how you feel. My son is autistic and supposed to be more prone to disease. I thank God everyday he is not one of those kids that get sick all the time. A child in his pre-k had fifths disease and the child drank out of his glass. I was so scared he would get it because as you said it is contagious. Actually, highly contagious. Turned out he didn't catch it. YAY! Hope your child is just as lucky.

I hope not either. That's where the pool thing got us a bit worried as everyone spits out water when their in the pool. KWIM? So to be safe I have to keep an eye on things for the next few weeks due to it's incubation time. UG!

I had that when I was about 6. I don't remember much about it. I do know they took me out of school when it was diagnosed. Hope your kids don't end up getting it.

I responded twice from my cellphone while at work like a week or so ago.. not sure if either went through. Haven't checked since.. things just been so busy around here. Sooo gotta tell ya about what my SIL did this time.. OMG. Still haven't had a day off in forever.. and not going to be getting one anytime soon. Alicia's supposed to be back the end of this month, but nobody has heard from her since the baby was born. She texted us to let us know she was born, but that was beginning of April and not a word since, so some of us are wondering if she's going to return or not. If not, I'll probably permentantly be 30 hours.. oh goodie! Talk to ya soon, hopefully.

That is so frustrating. Some people just don't realize that they should warn people if their kids get something like Fifths disease so that they can watch their kids.

I don't have knowledge about fifth disease maybe we have other term here in my country. But as what you have said it is a contagious disease, I feel for your kid I hope she will not get infected. Maybe you must have known the first aid or how the most effective ways to prevent the sickness if ever your kid must have it. But I hope not so.

Well the parents were half right but not fully. Fifths disease is contagious but it is only contagious before the rash breaks out. Once they get the rash they can no longer pass the virus but there is no way to tell before the rash comes out that someone has the virus. So it is spread unintentionally. My daughter had this in kindergarten and she was ok to go to school everyday. But the sunlight would make it come out really bad and swell up terribly so she couldnt go out for recess. It was the end of the school year luckily when she had it.

It's been ages since I've heard of this! I had to look it up and refresh my knowledge. Since it's viral would you have to take your kids in to the doctor? (antibiotics don't work on viruses) Your neighbor sounds pretty lax about her child's health and that of the neighborhood. I hope your kids don't get it--or you and your husband!!

My kids don't have to go to the Dr as there's nothing they can do for it nor do they have any symptoms as of now. One can only let it run it's course wich of course can come and go for months though not contagious

I had never heard of Fifth Disease so I looked it up. Kids Health says that many people have indications of having in in their blood but don't remember ever having symptoms. It seems that it's a fairly mild virus for most. Still, she should have mentioned it to you and others. Most colds are mild, too, but should be mentioned, especially when children play together.

Your neighbor sounds inconsiderate. She should have told you right away. Our grandson had it, our daughter took him to the doctor and he was over it in a few days. Think it looks worse than it actually is but we all need to take note when our kids are broken out in a rash. I had never heard of Fifths Disease until he contracted it. Have you talked to the mom and asked her not to send her kids to swim with your kids in your pool until the neighbor girl is over it?

That is irresponsible and inconsiderate! I doubt she even knew wheter it was contagious, or maybe the doctor told her it's not contagious AFTER this point, but she wasn't listening that far into his instructions.
She should have told you, but now you've got to watch it in your own kids. I'd be really mad, tell the school, the girl scouts and any other neighborhood kids parents to watch out. Who knows how many others her kids have come in contact with.
Does this mean you have to drain the pool and refill it?
