I had suggested to my jerk of a brother to dump the yellow bucket of water here in the driveway which has tons and tons of mosquito larvae in it for at least a week or two now. He said yea he will do it sort of in his little way, and this was early last week. Now today I look there and he still hasn't dumped it. I don't know what the heck he is saving this for. He once told me it was for fish food. But don't you think there would be easier ways of getting food for your fish? He doesn't get bit by them and thus doesn't care if anyone else does, such as me and others. I think this dude is one of the most selfish jac_$$es I have known. Not only does he hoard things here and act stubborn about taking care of it now he is breeding these &@!&%$#(& skeeters. No wonder I can't go outside in the summer without getting bit. I told my dad today about it and he acts like he's the damn son, saying he's not gonna mention it to him cause he got "in trouble" with him yesterday for doing something he didn't like with the weeds. OMG, this family is so messed up. Should I just go and dump it and then not care if he gets mad, he doesn't own this house. God forbid if he ever did, it would look even worse than it does now with three cars/trucks in the driveway filled with junk that don't work, the buckets, etc that he has just outside, and then the upstairs and his "living room/bedroom" with a huge pile of crap in the one corner next to his "bed/couch". I feel like jail would even be a more sanity & safe place to live, sometimes.

well welcome to my world. my 2 youngest dont give a darn either. my daughter thinks our bathroom of which 4 people share is the dirty clothes hamper and my son, the youngest one, thinks the corner is his until it spreads out to the middle of his room. then the oldest sees it and says hey dude, you need to clean up cause i dont want bugs in my house. then he finally does his laundry and i mention it to daughter about the clothes in bathroom and she has her bf throw them in the laundry, then i have to watch or he dont take them out of the washer and they need washed again. yuk!!

Sorry bunny, I have alot going on in my life and some health problems that effect my memory too. I have not been on this site a lot for a while either so please forgive me for not reading and/or remembering sometimes. I can't help it. Now I hope to remember you have kids that are older. I feel so stupid, now. :*(

Yes but these are children, right? Adults should know better. I know how you feel though. It never ends. I really don't even think he noticed when I changed the water in the bucket today, haha. Thats how interested init he is. I will have to take more and more water out of it eventually too once it stops raining here almost everyday.

Your brother is playing with fire breeding mosquitoes and their larva. Mosquitoes carry some pretty serious diseases that only take a small skeeter bite to infect the person. It isn't just human diseases but also heart worm disease for dogs...I can go on for pages ranting about how dumb it would be for him to keep the larva growing in his bucket. He might not be bitten by the vicious little bugs, but there are a lot of other people he is putting at risk by raising mosquitoes and the larva. Plus claiming that he is raising the larva for fish food is a cop out for his laziness and indifference. I would be very apt to clean the mess myself. It is a wonderful home for mice, rats, snakes, bugs and other dangerous intruders. This is the time of year that in California the rattle snakes are out in force. And, since we didn't have heavy rains this year, we are looking at more of the snake eggs hatching and a huge infestation of all varieties of snakes. The question in my mind is "is it worth the uproar from your cleaning up the mess? Or is it better off left alone?"

If you are seeing more snake eggs, they are not rattle snake eggs because rattle snakes give birth to live young.

I wouldn't want to tackle something like that either! An exfriend of mine was a huge slob and I got fed up with the horrible mess so I decided to start cleaning. I'm not a neat freak by any means but I wasn't that filthy. I would go down once a week and spend between 8 and 10 hours cleaning. It took 6 weeks but when I finished the place looked great! I washed dishes like crazy and put them away, cleaned up moldy food, moldy clothing, papers glued together with old food and so much more. One day I did laundry from the time I arrived at 10 a.m. until I left at 6 p.m., and I had barely touched the pile. The clean house lasted for two weeks...which was until his brother showed up. Then in less than a week the place looked like I never touched it. His yard was just as bad. He decided he wanted a garden so I went out to his back yard and cleaned trash like crazy. It was tons of empty cans that he had just tossed out the back door, old clothing that he was too lazy to put in the trash can, old shoes and so much more. I got cut on a piece of metal and ended up at the ER getting stitches...I got his garden planted and nothing ever happened because he was too lazy to water it. He got it in his head that I was going to marry him...which was as apt to happen as the Pope becoming a Southern Baptist! Not only was he a filthy idiot, but he was also extremely cheap! I would buy the various treats we would have during our day out. When we reached the point of getting our free whatever, I would have him pay. He threw a fit then too!!! It was a vast relief when the friendship ended! Of course all the wild animals will live with your brother. He has provided the perfect surroundings for the critters to move in. Especially with the skunks. Skunks carry rabies (so do possums) and it wouldn't surprise me that one day you post that your brother was bitten by a rabid animal. Maybe one day the health agencies will descend on your brother and condemn the mess he is living with. My yard is a mess, but I am working a little at a time to clean it up. I have been sick for quite awhile with the heart problem, so I have a viable excuse for the mess...it is driving me crazy and as soon as possible I will have it cleaned up.

Why yes, I would rather think that there would be far easier ways to get food. Without breeding those little sodding pests that have been the bane of my existence for many summers straight. Then again, the logic of some people defies all...well logic, to the point where it is really hard to determine whether or not you wonder if there is anything going on upstairs. Then again, lazy people will be lazy and lazy people will make some of the more absurd decides. I have seen people who store junk in their backyard, that you know what, I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would want some of this rubbish. Or anyone right in their wrong mind. Then again, there are some people who get into some weird habits.

There are some fish that require live food to survive, but still, he is so careless about them actually breeding, and he doesn't use nets and a cover at all on this stuff. What I did today was dump the water out in the grass and then refill it up with water so at least the existing larvae were killed. I know they will probably have more in there soon but then I'll just dump it all again and refill it, maybe he won't notice as I don't even think he looks in it. He just has all these wierd ideas sometimes. They are unsafe though the way he handles it all, he is careless and lazy.

By all means, dump the bucket. He either won't notice, or he will, but by then the deed will be done and there won't be a health problem. As for the rest of his junk, if he doesn't notice it, why don't you start removing small bits of it and get rid of the junk in small increments? My best suggestion would be to move away, but in these economic times it's a bit of a stretch. While you're dumping that bucket, be sure and take a look around for any others.

Yes, I will dump it again soon. I did see more mosquito larvae in it a day after I had dumped it. Perhaps it was a remnant from the same day and didn't get them all dumped, but I will be getting rid of the water again soon.

Having a bucket filled with water that has mosquito larvae in it is not only insensitive, but also asinine, unsanitary, annoying and dangerous. Has your brother never heard of the West Nile virus? If I were in your situation, I would "accidentally" knock over the bucket, or "accidentally" drop some bleach in the bucket, thus making the larvae unsafe for the fish to eat, so he'd have to dump out the bucket.

Thank you Mayuko, I agree with you 1000%. I did manage to dump it and then I added more water to it from the hose, not telling him I did it so maybe he'll think they all just grew into mosquitoes and flew away, haha. I've dumped this stuff on him before as well, but I just don't want any trouble either. It's not right for him to just do whatever the heck he wants and in some cases there are even laws against this kind of thing in some states here. The bucket is quite out of reach as far as accidentally knocking it over, but I like the idea of the bleach. I would have to use a small amount so he cannot smell it though, it can be very potent (the bleach). I don't want to kill his fish either, if he even has anymore left anywhere. i do know there are a few tanks downstairs in the basement but of what I don't know, it's in the back in a dark corner. Yes, it is very asinine, unsanitary and dangerously annoying. All of those words come to mind when I think of it, too. I guess I'll just keep alternating from dumping and refilling it using the water on the plants and grass of course until I can't any longer due to my surgery in July. I'm not really even supposed to lift any heavy stuff but I don't want these things being forgotten and then him letting them breed and make more skeeters. They can bite animals as well as people.
