Are you on a Gluten Free diet?

I've noticed a lot of articles on gluten free foods and people who are not able to eat foods with gluten in them. A couple of examples are my son and my cousin. My son has crohn's so he is supposed to stay away from foods with gluten in them. A couple of years ago my cousin was having trouble eating. She lost a significant amount of weight and was weak because a lot of the food she ate, she would throw up. After many tests, the doctors said she needed to be on a gluten free diet. My sister in-law, who is a very good cook and loves to bake, cooks and bakes for a lot of people at a time. She always remembers people's eating needs. Sometimes she makes extra food just because she knows that someone doesn't like what she is fixing for the main dish. And she always makes sure to fix gluten free and dairy free foods, and foods without peanuts or peanut oil. They have a big family so that's a lot of cooking a baking. She shared a very simple gluten free cookie recipie with me: Peanut Butter cookies 1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky) 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla -- Bake at 350* for 10 min. Here is a website for gluten-free recipies that I found helpful: http://www.food.com/recipes/gluten-free

I recently decided to give up wheat after a talk show host mentioned the book Wheat Belly. It's quite an eye-opener! I've been almost wheat free for a week and I've lost 5 pounds and feel really good! That book explains a LOT about why Americans are so fat. Did you know that a piece of "healthy" whole grain bread spikes your blood sugar more than a Snickers bar?! So anyway, thanks for the site, it will really come in handy!
