Where did your ancesters come from? Where did they immigrate to? And do you know the port they came into? My relatives come from Scotland. Also my husbands. I'm researching my husbands relatives who came thru Ellis Island and settled in Clearfield PA.

I am very interested in that. I have no idea of how to go about doing it though. My father is from england. When i was younger he told me that our name was shortened when our relatives came over here. I have never met any of my family on my fathers side, only him and my grandma and grandpa. I think it would be something interesting to research.

Do you know which port they came thru when they immigrated?Ellis Island has a free search and you can put in alternate spellings of your family name. Records stopped being kept sometime in the 1940's So if it was before this time you might find them. also Ancestry.com has a paid subscription to access their records but you can find a lot of info from that as well and it is a good place to look up census records. A lot of old Census records ask for info like where they were born and things like that. At ellis Island you can look at the real ships passenger lists and the info list for each passenger is very interesting. I'll find the sight and post it here later.

My grandmother and mom was doing some genealogy in our family tree on my mothers side of the family. I'm not so sure all their information was accurate. I have looked into a little bit try to help them along. Now that my Grandmother has pass no one really seem to be interested much anymore.

That is sad because finding your family history is interesting. It does take alot of work though. I may know a fact for certain but i still try to obtain copies of things like birth certificates, Marriage licenses and things like that to verify the facts. If I can't verify it then I put it down as unverified even though I know the facts are true. I have even taken photos of headstones.

I have always been interested in my family heritage. My mother is researching it now. We have roots as Native Americans. But, you'd never know it from looking at me. I have blonde hair and blue eyes! My mother, her mother, and her mother all have identifing characteristics that make it hard to deny their heritage.

Yes, I've gotten into geneaology too somewhat. I was working on it when my mother had to have heart surgery a few months ago and I intend on picking up on it again soon. It is so interesting. My mothers relatives we were able to trace to Germany and England. Dad's went back to England on my grandfather's side. Grandma was part Indian and its hard to trace some of her relatives. My husbands family is Japanese American which is very hard to trace.

All our family is really into geneology. We have ours traced back to the 1500's. I love seeing where they all came from and where they were when they met and married. It is truly amazing..

Hienz 57. Thats what we call it when there is such a mix of ethnic backgrounds. From what I can tell on both my husband and my side is that it is Scottish and German with a a bit of Welsh thrown in.

I have recently started to become interested in genealogy and never knew until a few months ago that alot of my relatives are also from scotland. I made a Major breakthrough when i discovered that my GGG Grandmother was Christian Watt who wrote the Christian Watt papers. It all fell into place from there as alot of her family was documented in the book and the small town she came from called fraserburgh also had very good records of the families there. I live in Perth, Australia now.

I wish my search would lead me to someting like that where everything was already documented. It is addicting. Once you start the hunt you can't seem to stop. I would love to go to Scotland someday and see if I can find some of these towns or maps of the places if they no longer exist. I do know the general area where they came from. Asutralia is another place I thought would be interesting to visit.
