Earlier I made a discussion about nearly stepping on a wild turkey out in our field. Well this week I saw this turkey again and she has little ones, two of them. If you see her you have to look fast because she lays down in the deep grass as soon as she sees anyone watching her. This is the first time we have had these babies where we could watch them grow. With many of our other bird friends we can watch the nest and with the quail see the babies enter the flock which we throw feed to.

Yeah the turkeys are really cool animal. Well like you say you should be fast because they hide their face under the grass when they see you. I have the opportunity to see them once. And also I have even the chance to touch them. I think that the turkey is animal which is really unique and must be seen.

These birds are truly wild, you'd never be able to touch them. The tame turkeys act just like chickens and aget all around your feet when you feed them.

No pictures, they are hidden to well. But we do see the adults and have the dogs chase them away, you don't want them near your house they are very dirty and make a mess on everything. Best seen from a distance.

That's why I love to live in farm, I love to see birds and raise some farm animals. We don't have turkey here that going around I've seen them only on the zoo.

Sounds like you should have some good photography opportunities with the wild turkey and her young family. At least, that would be my impulse--to grab the camera and try to get some good shots of the birds.

There is no way I am fast enough to take pictures of these chicks. I could get the adults since they are not so shy. But they are not very pretty unless the males have their tails spread during mating season.

I never saw wild turkey. Have you made them wild ? It is very interesting that you can observe wild life. In our marshy lands seasonal birds come in the winter. Many of them are killed by the hunters. It is cruelty. I love birds and the nature.

No these birds are wild and they are native. I think the turkeys that are farm animals were all bred from them.

I have only seen what a baby turkey looks like once in my life and it was with another adult turkey a few years back in a wooded kind of area with houses around. I'm not sure how many babies but it was probably something like 2-4 of them, the car was going too far to count them. they are so cute when they are small. How lucky for you to be able to watch them grow along with the other birds in your area now like the quails and stuff. I would love to be able to see those. Isn't nature wonderful?

I've always heard that turkeys are stupid, dumb, etc. But your turkey doesn't sound too stupid. Instead of running, she had the sense to duck down in the tall grass. Most animals would just run. Of course, birds would fly but I don't think turkeys can fly all that well. And she's protecting two young'uns so she's not gonna fly.

I think it's the difference between wild and tame birds. Wild birds only live if they are smart, tame birds don't have to be smart all they need to do is eat.

Thats pretty cool. But aren't wild turkeys a little nasty? I mean I heard that they will go on the attack when they have babies close by. Either way, they will be fine and I bet it is an amazing site to see. I don't get to see anything like that living here in the city.

Pair of Wild Turkeys - I saw these on my way home in early June.
I saw some on my scenic drive home on Monday and I did stop to take pictures. I also got them on video, but I haven't processed it yet. They are fast. I could barely keep up with them. They appear to be a pair. I had a zoom or I never would have captured them on my camera. Not a great shot, but if you've not seen a wild turkey, here they are. I didn't see any babies. I've never been able to get pictures of our quail. They are really fast, and so cute when their little ones follow them.

We see the quail only because we feed them. Is that cheating?
