I was talking to someone in our house. He is 25. I'm going to see the Beach Boys this month. I was telling him I went to a Beach Boys concert a few years ago and Mike Love said "were going to do our first 45. now, for those of you who don't know what a 45 is, it's a 7 inch black disk and it had a big hole in the middle, sort of like a doughnut." He asked me if I have one of those. One? I said I have hundreds. Then i stopped and said You don't know what that is either do you. He said no, so I ran downstairs, grabbed a few. I remember going to Sunday School and every now and then, our mom and dad would stop at k mart and me and my sister would pick one. I remember one time my sister bought "love is blue," by Paul Mariot. Later on in life, it was albums. You would buy an album, some of them even opened up, some came with posters. You don't get that with CDs. Of course, you had to be breal careful not to scratch them, make sure the needle was new because playing a record on a dull needle ruined the record. now, I'm hearing commercials about transffering your CDs to digital.

When I was young, we had a lot of vinyls in our house. Then later on my father bought me my own stereo system, so I took just a handful of vinyls to my room to listen to. Later on when we were all using CD's, nobody listened to all the other vinyls anymore so my mother gave them all away to the last one! Fortunately, that handful that I took, I still have those. And I'm so glad I have them. I actually still listen to them to this day, in the mornings while I'm making breakfast.

Yes I miss vinyl, but more than that, I miss what went with them. You see, the stereo systems we had then were big - in my case very big! We had decent speakers, not the tiny little things you get today. A pair of Marshall 4 x 12 columns did make vinyl sound good!
