Animal and/ or house sitting to make money

I have been seeing more and more ads for people wanting someone to sit with or walk their dogs. I also know when people go on long vacations some of them hire house sitters. I am thinking of trying one or both of these as a way to make a bit more money, but I have no idea how to price something like that. Are there any of you who do this type of work and if so could you share a bit of insight on it? Also what may be some of the drawbacks (if any). I would love to have your input. Thank you!

The only experience I had in animal and house sitting is doing it for people I know. I suppose I am not too comfortable doing it for strangers. And I would imagine that it would be hard to trust your properties to strangers these days.

Well, there are some good points and Bad points to this I am sure, and I have heard of people making some really good money because if you have to leave your animal in a kennel it can run you quite a bit. The main issue would be who do you get? A friend you personally know, or a stranger who you feel you can Trust, and hoping it will be that way when you return. We recently were gone and had someone here so that was good, but deciding what is Best is always the hard thing for sure.

In my country, many college kids do house sitting in Summer. Sometimes they get paid, sometimes it´s only house and keep. As they have told me, anyway it is worth it as they don´t have to pay rent and groceries are usually more and better than what they can afford.

I agree that it can be good for both reasons. That would be great for college students but since I have a daughter to raise and bills :( I better go for the paying jobs.

The best way to get customers and a good reputation would be to start offering this to friends and family. This will build up your background and you can offer new customers your friends and family as references. I know that personally, I wouldn't want to have a stranger come to my house and care for my dogs. I don't think I'd be comfortable bringing them to a stranger's house. There's also petsitting agencies that can hire you and give you different jobs of taking care of pets. Occasionally I have family friends ask me to either come in a few days a week to take care of cats and I've even spent the weekend at my dad's friend's house so I could take care of their dog. Your best bet would be to either look for an agency in your area or start off with friends and family and then maybe work your way up to your own business.

Well if you really want extra money this is for you. Of course you should have a free time. I also sometimes help people by that ways and earn a few money. It could be interesting and also helpfully for someone. So if you want bit more money you can try.

Well, I have never done this, but my son and daughter have. They have both taken care of pets for friends that were on vacation. My son has also house and dog sat for some friends who were gone for about a week. Things went pretty well for them. Last night a teenager from church knocked on my door wondering if I knew how to get into a neighbors house. She was going over to feed their dog, but then she got locked out of the house when she let the dog out to the backyard. So don't set the key down in the house. Always put it back in your pocket so you can't get locked out.
