the star spangled banner instead of the philippine national anthem?
watching the match right now. mylotting from one of the hotels here in manila. let me say that the girl who sang the philippine national anthem did well. i missed her last name and got that her first name is kerby/kirby. not even sure how or why she was chosen to sing the philippine national anthem in such a high profile match. not knocking her down, its just she isn't as popular as other singers who had the distinction of singing the national anthem in such an event.
now, going back to my point, michael buffer didn't even mention jessica sanchez' filipino lineage. anyway, she did well singing the us anthem. just want to get the consensus here among my fellow filipino mylotters about how they feel with jessica sanchez singing the other country's anthem instead of our own?
feel free to chime in.
oh by the way, bradley coming in to the ring now. love his entrance music, dj khaled's 'all i do is win'.

I don't think Jessica singing the US national anthem would sit well to a lot of americans who voted for her in the american idol. career or popularity wise, it won't do her any good if she sings the Philippine national anthem this early especially in a high profile fight.

hi ybong007.
how have you been man? nice to see you in the thread. you raised a good point although i really don't think the american fans will mind if jessica sings the philippine national anthem ove reh star-spangeld banner.
anyway, to each his own. i think it'll be great to see and hear jessica sanchez sing the philippine national anthem.

lol at the pollidea ybong!!!
i'll pass on that.
anyway, yeah, jessica will need to practice the philippine national anthem first before she gets to sing it. i think she'll find it easy enough. looking forward to seeing and hearing her dish out 'lupang hinirang'.
cheers and thanks for participating ybong!!!

I sure she would sing lupang hinirang in due time and again I don't think it would do her good when she sings it this early. if she would do so without practising how to properly pronounce the words, then it would end up as a disaster. but just for the benefit of it, I think we should make a poll on how americans feel if they hear jessica sang the philippine anthem instead of the star spangled banner, well, before the discussion gets deleted for violation.

I know the girl that sang pambansang awit was also famous and her being so Filipino was still prominent in here that she could sing well our national anthem. As for Jessica I could really imagine in her that she is not a good Filipino singer and I think she has not memorized it yet and with her style of singing it would be hard for her since our national anthem is not sang according to her voice. Whereas for US they can always alter the style of the way their anthem is sang. Philippines is a bit conservative that we are not allowed to change the tempo and melody of our national anthem.

hi rsa101.
i have no idea who kirby asunto is and how she was chosen to sing the philippine national anthem. typed her name and did the internet search thing. came across this article, http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/06/10/12/fil-am-teener-kirby-asunto-sings-national-anthem. not bad at all.
anyway, she did well singing the philippine national anthem. as for jessica sanchez singing the philippien national anthem, most of the mylotters did say that jessica probably doesn't even know the lyrics of the national anthem much less how it is sung. perhaps in the next bradley-pacquiao fight, jessica sanchez can sing the philippine national anthem.
anyway, two filipinas singing during the pre-fight is indeed source of pride and inspiration for all filipinos around the world.

I agree with you, I admire Kirby for singing the national anthem of our country so well.. it was so clear and you can really understand what she was saying - of course when you know tagalog. jessica sanchez is jessica sanchez... it was rather cool that she got to be chosen to sing the national anthem of the US - i think though that she kind of overdid it as i can barely understand the words coming out of her! I know english but i don't understand the song she sang! he he not to offend anyone - this is what i thought only okay?
I would still be proud of this woman as she is more known to be the contestant of the american idol than being a filipina. Let's face it technically she is american because she has documents or proofs, hence she got into the show in the first place. Let us not make it a big of a deal why she is not singing our national anthem - she does not even speak the language! :P

hi chiyosan.
you've raised very valid points. not making a big deal out of jessica sanchez not singing the philippine national anthem, just wanted to hear what other mylotters think about it.
i thought jessica sang the star-spangled banner well. she did a good job and so did kirby. kudos to the two ladies for a phenomenal job!!!
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Hello Allen, You know I like in this matter, Jessica was more cheered when she sang the US National Anthem compare to Kurby Asunto who sang the Philippine national Anthem. but it makes you proud seeing two filipinas sing the National Anthem. but what I hate is that people are saying that Jessica sanchez is not proud filipina for singing US anthem but this is bcause there was already a chosen singer for the National Anthem Phils. another was complaining why philipp didn't sing the US anthem when he's in a freaking surgery and recovering

hi letranknight25.
how have you been man? been awhile.
wow! you seem to know a lot about these american idol contestants. i'm not really a big fan of the show. i wouldn't know who jessica sanchez is if not for all the coverage she got in our local news. i'd like to know how kirby asunto was picked to sing the philippine national anthem. i'll look it up later in the net.kinda pressed for time now. anyway, i think it would have been cool if jessica sanchez sang BOTH the philippine national anthem and the star spangled banner. not sure if this has been done before or if thiswill be allowed but for sure that would have brought a lot of honor to the philippines.
anyway, i agree with what you pointed out that having two filipinas sing the two country's respective anthems is a big honor in itself.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

Jessica Sanchez as usual gave a very good performance out of singing Star Spangled Banner. The crowd was cheering for her which means they appreciated the way the national anthem was sung. Jessica might have Filipino lineage but she is an American citizen. She has all the right to sing the US national anthem. I don't think she is conversant in Filipino or Tagalog. It might not be easy for her to learn Bayang Magiliw in a short time and with a very busy schedule. Maybe for the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch, she might get to sing the Filipino national anthem.

hi yahnee.
good point about jessica sanchez not knowing the lyrics of the philippine national anthem. i never really thought about that.
now that there will be a bradely-pacquiao rematch, perhaps we can see and hear jessica sanchez sing the philippine national anthem in that match.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

Jessica Sanchez is a dime a dozen. I was not thrilled with her last 4 performances. Sure, she did well with a lot of the songs, but so did many others. I voted for Phillip Phillips because he has a very unique voice and style. His style of clothing also was not the center of attention. He was not trying to put on a fashion show. As an entertainer, you must pull your fans in by being true and origional. Phillip has it all, as you could see by his last preformance, he went to his family because of his overwhelming success; the people who had supported him throughout his entire live; the people who he loved the most, his family! I was suprised that Jessica was actually in 2nd place, as I was hoping for Hollie. But no matter what, there is always a winner and a loser. They will all have songs on the radio, and very soon. Record companies will do anything to make money these days. So again, I was not impressed with jessica and neither was 3/4 of America. The votes prove this. She didn't deserve to win, much less be in second place. Thanks!
