Girlfriend getting viruses on my computer

June 10, 2012 3:40pm CST
Ok, i'll admit, my girlfriend isn't as computer-smart as I am. But no matter how many times I tell her, she keeps downloading things and getting viruses! It's like she tries to get viruses...what should I say to her? I mean, my anti-virus doesn't pick up everything and it takes effort to remove the viruses myself, when I could be doing odd jobs. Anyone have similar experiences, and what did you do?

Lets face the truth, its because your computer is not well protected that you let viruses get inside in the first place. To prevent viruses from infecting, its not suppose to let them get in and then remove it. Its to PREVENT them from getting in at all. So i believe that if you have to take effor to remove the viruses yourself then its time to use a different protection for your computer No offence here

Nope, I have AVG+ZoneAlarm, it is a good combo and I keep them updated. My computer is well-protected, it's just that the anti-virus can't catch everything. But I see what you mean by to prevent them from getting in at all. I might get the Web Of Trust application so that she can't access dangerous websites.

I think you should just show her and explain to her what she needs to be careful of when downloading things on your computer. If she is with you, she can always check with you before downloading something...

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys! I agree with you - I will be giving her some lessons about viruses for sure. Hopefully it will get to a stage where she can spot viruses herself.

Yeah. I think that the only way is to try not only telling her to tell her to be careful but to teach her what to do. Or if she is with you to ask you at least and see is the file OK. Maybe some main PC lessons could help. Maybe this is the way if you really don't want viruses.

I agree with you, infact, I think it's the best response :) I'll give her some PC lessons, hopefully she will learn enough to be able to learn if a file looks dangerous or not. I'll tell her to stay away from music and video sites without showing me first, too.

Get Avast! Free Antivirus (: Make sure to go to the CNET downloads, though. d: I at one time went to a similar site, and it was a virus! D: Anyway, Avast! has a lot of shields to protect your computer in the best ways possible.
