Overcoming Setbacks

MyLot, I am extremely upset today, and I need some help getting myself back in the right frame of mind. This morning I posted a poetry challenge on HubPages, and some pompous jerk flagged my challenge calling it duplicate content. This challenge was written with all my own words, and no one else had a challenge like mines on the internet. This is just an example of someone with an over inflated ego looking down upon my work. I am sick of egotistical people. I am tired of people feeling self important because they think they accomplished something by getting a handful of people to recognize them. I know I just need to stick to my plan and keep writing, but this situation makes me want to scrap all my work and say to Hell with it all. I really need to take my mind off this mess, so please MyLot help me before i do something I'll regret later.

Never let others - especially self important idiots like this one - rule over you. You have the choice to respond by be angry (and I certainly don't blame you) or you have the choice to realize that this person didn't know what he was talking about and just shot off his mouth with no evidence. In that case, shrug your shoulders and go do something productive. Don't let this person dictate how you feel about anything. Easier said than done, I know. But if I were you, I'd try anyway.

I feel much better now. My work got republished, now the site knows it's legit just in case this jerk tries it again.

Obviously the one who flagged you on hubpages is an idiot. He is so probably intimidated by your creativity. I mean we've seen movies or books that almost are identical in the plots. But we don't hear from those people ranting about those who try to rip off their stories or movies. How can something written differently be some forme of duplicate or plagiarism. It has to be exact to an obvious point. Dude there will always be people out there who just can't handle it. All I can say is let your readers be the judge. Perhaps they can make some sense of all that ridiculous flagging. Actually that also happens here on mylot. Some troll randomly flags discussions, we've seen the likes of those around here too. We left them alone and ignored them and some of them just fade away. lol.

yes the administrators are the only ones that can sort it out for you.

I hope that's what will happen this time. I had a good talk with HubPages administrators, if I have this problem again, they better do something about the one abusing the flagging.

Don't take the criticism of others to heart on your writing. Believe in yourself and your writing. Don't let the opinions of someone else take away from what you create. Don't give others the power to make you fail. Just believe in what you write and be happy in the accomplishment. Creative minds push forward so just keep that thought in mind and i wish you the best of luck in your writing endeavors.

Thanks. I didn't let them make me fail. I pushed on, and I'm happy again.

I think that person would be very happy and satisfied to see you give up completely. I know that is not the answer, and I am sure you do to. I hope your hard work get's republished soon. I hate when things like this happen. It is completely unfair. I hope you feel more calm and relaxed soon! =) Keep writing though...

I won't give him the satisfaction, but I will keep my eyes out for a pattern to things and if i find out who it is, I will show him how I play hardball.

We all experience setbacks Philly, it's part of life. Unfortunately, we all run in to a few jerks in our lifetime as well, be it online or in person. We can't control the actions of other people but we can control our own actions and how we react to a situation. So, just take a few steps back (for now), divert your attention to something else...read a book, spend time with your kids, get lost in mylot, whatever. Try not to let what this jerk did make you angry (I know that's easier said than done) because if you do it will fester and that's when you will do something you might regret later. Just feel confident in yourself and you writing and know that you are the stronger person here. When you're ready, then get back to seriously writing your poetry.

I'm trying to do that. Right now there is a big reminder of it so it's hard to let it go.

I'm so sorry to hear about your setback Philly! It's a sad thing but not everyone online is nice :( You are quite right, you need to keep writing. You cannot scrap your work or give up, because probably your work is beautiful, but what you might have forgotten is that this world, from the animal kingdom right up to human politics, is a competitive one. And since many people can't win on merit, they have to discredit the competition to beat it by ruining their reputation. And that didn't cheer you up did it. Perhaps you need a nice cup of green tea and a nice, hot foam bath :)

It's just really frustrating, and the the thing that would make me feel better would be to punch the person in the face who did this. GRRRRR! I might take a nice bath, but I'm trying to see if I can cool off without it. I've tried playing a game, and watching some TV, but every time I see my article isn't published it just gets me angry all over again.

Hi Philly, Don't worry. You are silly if you are angry about somebody's mistake! It's his mouth, its his hand, he can say whatever he wants , he can write whatever he wants.you cant control others' behavior. But you do can control you mind and your life.! Stick to what you have started and who cares what the others think? Its your work your dream, Pilly.

In this situation my work got taken off the site to be reviewed, and now I'm waiting as the site drags their feet to re publish my work.
