potential candidates for raw and smackdown general managers. i'll start it off by saying i hate john laurinaitis!!! his 'people power' management style just doesn't work in my opinion and by far i think he is the worst general manager in raw and smackdown. the anonymous general manager (that laptop that was just as annoying in my opinion) is actually a better general manager than good ole big johnny. also, i don't agree with having one general manager for both shows. common! who is wwe kidding? so i'm going to throw names out here in this thread and put which show i'd like to see them in.
anyway, i'm going to start my list with those who are not with wwe at the moment. i'm going to throw the usual/unusual choices:
1) hulk hogan and ric flair. however, both are under contract with tna, so i doubt that this happens. hulk hogan can handle smackdown and ric flair can handle raw as he was general manager in this show before. imagine the bragging rights and the back and forth that these two managers and the superstars in each show will do with these two hall of famers handling their own respective brands.
2) edge, last i heard, he has no contract with wwe so i'm grouping him here. let's face it, fans love edge. his reeking with awesomeness and both raw and smackdown can benefit from his presence.
3) shane mcmahon and stephanie mcmahon. they did it before, they can do it again. i'd love for both of them to get back on the saddle and manage each brand. again, think about the sibling rivalry they'll have when they go head to head!
4) stone cold steve austin. really unsure if he's connected with wwe or not but i'm bunching him here. he was co-general manager before of raw with eric bischoff so i think he'll fit the role of raw gm well again. come to think of it, add eric bischoff to the list. he's with tna now so he belongs to this list.
ok, enough of those who aren't with wwe. on to my list of personalities with wwe contracts:
1) teddy long. holla! holla! holla! enough said! i really like how he handled smackdown. i think he deserves a bump and he can handle raw as well.
2) paul heyman. so far, his exposure has been limited to reading the 'resignation letter' of brock lesnar. paul heyman will be a great heel raw general manager, much better than what john laurinaitis is doing wight now.
3) mick foley. he has a contract with wwe but hasn't really been used so much. we may see any one of mick foley's personas in wwe alumni making surprise appearances in raw. anyway, any one of those three personalities, cactus jack, mankind, and dude love will be a good smackdown general manager.
4) william regal. he did a great job as raw general manager and i don't mind seeing him again as a raw general manager. in fact, he's a personal favorite so he is in my list.
so my fellow mylotters, who do you think will be a good raw/smackdown general manager? feel free to chime in.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Mike Adamle. :) No seriously speaking, I think the time for a RAW or Smackdown General Manager has long since passed. It is a story crutch that has been used. It leads to the evil authority figure versus the rebel babyface more times often than not, with a couple of exceptions. The first time, Mr. McMahon against Stone Cold, worked well, but it ran its course.
My idea is not to have a single General Manager, but rather a governing body of WWE Legends that oversee the company, are always in the background but maybe one of them comes on the shows every once and a while to make an announcement. Maybe made of with five legends, like Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson, Roddy Piper, and Mick Foley just to give a potential example. Its mentioned but in the background and doesn't monopolize the air time. That would give some sense that someone is in charge but also not override everything on the show. Although I doubt that's a crutch that WWE will give up any time soon.

hi megamatt.
how have you been man? been awhile and glad to see you here in the discussion.
mike adamle... he $ucked so bad, i cringe every time he gets on the show. he was the worst of the lot!!!
i like your idea about getting a governing body of wwe legends to oversee both shows. it has a refreshing take on the whole 'general manager' storyline. those are five good legends you mentioned. i'm going to throw sgt. slaughter in the mix as well and perhaps booker t and jerry the king lawler should they decide to leave the commentator's table.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

continuing this discussion...
i think wwe can consider shawn michaels as raw general manager. he was general manager before but didn't get much tv time back then.i think he will be a hit with the fans and is well respected in the locker room.
another name that popped in my head is batista. another gm to consider for smackdown. another fan favorite that seems to be popular among the others in the locker room and in the backstage.
anyway, carry on with the discussion if anyone want to chime in further.
cheers and happy mylotting!

I don't like the general manager idea in the first place, it serves very little purpose. And it is really annoying. It hasn't worked since they first started it with Steph and eric bishof. They just waste air time with lame announcements that nobody cares about, or doing stupid dances. Or (teddie is most famous for this) Making a stupid tag team match every week. They should come up with a fresh new idea, instead of rehashing the same stuff for over a decade.

hi dansazz.
you have a point about the general manager idea being a bit stale. megamatt mentioned something along the same vein and both of you have valid points. i would love to have general managers for both raw and smackdown but not have them use up air time needlessly. also, their involvement in storylines should be minimal and not be the main storyline leading up to a pay per view. if handled well, a storyline involving a general manager will be a hit with fans. otherwise, the promo just falls flat.
@ kul2010, if i remember correctly, kurt angle was a general manager for a limited time at smackdown before. can't recall if he did well or not but i think he is still under contract with tna so him showing up at either raw or smackdown will be a long shot but i wouldn't mind if he makes a comeback as either raw or smackdown gm.
thanks for participating!!!

hey kul2010, yeah, i know what you mean.
if i recall correctly, kurt became general manager of smackdown after getting injured. he was seated on a wheelchair and his bodyguard/assistant did the dirty work for him. even as an on-screen general manager, kurt angle feuded with eddie guerrero and john cena. angle eventually came back to wrestling with a story line that included vince mcmahon re-instating angle as a wrestler after discovering that angle 'faked' his injuries.
good interaction here mate.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!
