In a dramatic last round of matches in Group A, Greece and Czech Republic went through to the quarterfinals with identical 1-0 wins over Russia and Poland respectively. Greece the underdogs against the strong Russians had their captain Karagounis to thank for a fantastic strike at the end of the first half. Karagounis would though miss the quarterfinals as he was given an unlucky yellow card after being tripped in the penalty box.
Czech weathered an early Poland attack and then scored through Jiracek to win the match 1-0 and go through.
Will either of these two teams go further in the tournament?
Cheers!
Ram

I did not expect both of them to qualify. They did well to deserve their places in the quarter-finals. It showed what their determination and fighting spirits can do. Though I think it will be very hard for them to overcome their quarter final opponents in Germany and Portugal, they can be proud of their achievement in this Euro 2012.

It was really dramatic last matches in group A. Thats make Euro so interesting. I was sure that Russia will go trough, but Greeks play really well and surprise them and probably everybody. It is shame that home nation is out, but Czech was better. w will see how far can now go Greece and Czech Republic.

After their opening 4-1 victory over Czech and holding one of the host nations to a draw, everyone thought Russia had done the hard part. But Greece turned out and coupled with Czech victory over Poland, Russia is now on the way back home. I have mentioned before that Greece has been my bogey team since 2004. When I go with them, they flop big time and when I least expect them to win, they pop up with a fantastic result. So I stopped predicting about them. As for Czech, I favor them to pull one over Portugal.

Hi, Ram_cv, I'm sorry, I've just posted a similar discussion, I didn't notice yours. But I'm not a soccer fan, I watched the game just by chance and I'm glad about Greece because the country is in a big trouble and tomorrow they have crucial elections. Apparently it was a big surprise, I listened to the comments on our TV and nobody had expected this outcome. I hope the Russians did learn the good old lesson: don't estimate your adversary. Have a nice evening!

It was just a superb match. This is why football is too different from all other games. We can't predict any outcome in this format. Anything can occur at any time. I love football a lot. Anyway, it was just a thrilling end for the first level

Wow
! It was just a dramatic end for the group matches in the A group. It was just an unexpected one for me. I thought defnitely Russia will move on to the next group. But this was just a surprise for me. Let us wait and see whether these two teams will rock in the Euro 2012 or not
