Its bitter but I LOVE IT! I have cooked this a countless times with pork bits and egg with or without sauce. My hubby likes it without and very dry but I like it with a little bit though. Later I will try to cook it with Beef Strips and Oyster Sauce. I usually check on my fave youtube channels the recipes that I liked to try. How about you guys? Do you love or hate Bitter Gourd? Even if its bitter its SUPERFOOD and is good for the heart, cholesterol and even a cancer fighter.

I love this veggie too. Ilove doing the Amplaya con Carne. Just what you are teling here. I can give a tip about this veggie on how to keep the color live and green. You need to boil water with a teaspoon of baking soda. drop in the amplaya and simmer for about 2-3 minutes. When done, drop in ice bath. Then saute the meat and add the amplaya before the dish has finished. You are right, this veggie really help in fighting cholesterol or high blood pressure because of its blood thining effect, on the other hand, low blood persons can have the leaves because it is rich in iron that helps produce production of hemoglobin. It is also good for diabetic persons.

Thanks for the tip will do it next time. I'll be doing a lot of Ampalaya con Carne since hubby liked it better than sauteing it only in pork bits but I'll try other methods as well like the ground meat with tomato sauce or substitute the pork with chicken.

Sometimes i used to saute chcken in tomatoes and add amplaya on it. It taste good but you need to limit the amount of tomatoes for it will make the amplaya more bitter because of its sour taste. Sour foods and ampalaya are somewhat contrasting foods.

I am no fan of Ampalaya but I really do not have a choice because my mom would usually steam them on top of boiling rice and would make me eat them. I have been eating them like that for because she said it is good for my blood, I had acute anemia. She said it would really help my condition so she would really make me all of them. It is really bitter but because it is for my health, I ate them.

I don't usually eat it when I was a child because I know it's bitter but as I grow older and learned that it's not bad after all, I started to it. I like it when there's plenty of egg and oyster sauce. It goes well with fried fish. Yummy.

I don't know its English word but this is a common vegetable here. Many people say that it is a healthy vegetable and it has some good functions for you. And this vegetable is especially good for the diabetics. However, I don't like this vegetable and since it is bitter. I don't like eating anything that tastes bitter. I love China

I love it and its bitterness is what I love most. Some people remove some of its bitterness by soaking in salted water before cooking but not me. If there is no bitterness it is not bitter gourd anymore. I do cook it the same way you do but I don't use pork only chicken and egg. Sometimes I fry it also then eat with soy sauce and calamanci.

Bitter melon, This veggie is like the nightmare of every Asian child. I learned to eat it when I was like 13, I hate the taste but I can tolerate it now. I can eat it raw and eat it sauteed with meat, shrimp and egg with oyster sauce or soy sauce. I even juiced it. It is bitter but I can tolerate eating it now. In Okinawa Japan, people there have a lifespan of 100 years due to eating bitter melon everyday.

It's expensive here in the UK, so I only pick it up for my Asian housemates to cook when I can get it (relatively!) cheaply. And then I buy it in reasonable quantity and stick some of it in the freezer. They cook it with hot spices. I'm just dying to see what size of butterfly will come out of the cocoon that these things might develop into if I leave them. Will it be an edible butterfly?
