Missing Things

I lost my comb yesterday, and I'm the type of person who keeps only one. With my hair far from manageable, even after combing, I'm a bit hesitant to go out. I'm still looking for it, hoping I'll find it soon. There have been many instances I found random things soon after I lost them just sitting there in the open. I'd probably buy a new one tomorrow though, if I couldn't find it still. How soon do you replace a missing thing? Do you easily give up in finding lost objects?

Depending on what the item is I spend maybe an hour in all looking for it. If I can't find it I get frustrated and go out and buy a new one to replace the item. That it seems like right after I buy a new item I find the one I was looking for and like you said it is out in the open in the most obvious spot!

hi lauraleigh was there not a Edgar Allen Poe story about a letter being hi9ddn e in plain sight, I think it was c alled the Purloined letter. its so true often when I do give up and get a replacement I find the missing item in plain sight.

Yes, hiding in plain sight. I hate it when that happens, especially when it's the remote control. I usually tell myself to not get frustrated in finding missing things and wait for it to reappear. Sadly, that only happened a few times.

I don't often use comb..even though my hair is quite long. I do wash every day and then using my hand to comb it..then it is straight. In fact i have a comb also...but using my hand is faster...if i lost my comb...i may not buy it also...since i really don't need it much...

I am envious of your straight hair. There's no need of a comb for you. Whenever I use my hands to comb through my hair, I end up looking worse.

Ya, i have straight hair...However i heard that we should comb 2-3 times a day...then it is good for head skin. being lazy to use a comb like me is not good.

I tried to find it first. When I can't find it for a week, I replace it. It depends on useful it is to me. When it comes to the comb, i need it and i can't go out without combing my hair. lol

I agree! I don't know why I even waited to buy a new one. My hair was a huge mess for a day because of my stubbornness!

my old boss had a nice saying, if it doesnt reappear now it hasnt been missing long enough. I always have spare items when it comes to really important things like comb, wallet for plastic cards, several lengths of shoelaces......and of course more than one ballpoint pen here at hand.

That's an interesting outlook on missing things, that saying. Although I lost a stuffed animal many years ago, and it still have not resurfaced yet. I wonder how long will it be enough to reappear? I miss that stuffed pony! I have never invested in having spare items, and I think it's a great idea. Thanks!

its so annoying when something of utmost use goes missing.Even though it is just a small thing but creates a lot of hassle in searching for it.Better option is keep a spare one as i usually do so.

Yes, it is annoying, though I am thankful I just lost a comb. It could be worse, like a key or jewelry. Those are very hard to look for.

I have experienced that many times. When I lost my earrings in our bed, I try to look everywhere in our room. I try to look in our bed, under our bed, I've tried to look in our pillows but none of my earrings are present. And I swept the floor nether my earrings are there. So I just let the day passed forget about the earrings. The other night my husband got down from bed, when he returned back to bed, he steped into something he tried to picked up then he saw my earrings. And hand over to me. I was surprised that he saw my earrings. I told to my husband this was the earrings that I'm looking for days and wonder why it came out now. I dont know if someone is playing with me. I dont know if fairies and gnomes are real? Or they live with us? .

Yes, I've also heard of stories of unknown beings responsible for these happenings, though I doubt it's true. Maybe we're just too frustrated to see things which are hiding in plain sight? Losing jewelry is tough is more upsetting, though. You can't just buy a new one - especially if it was given to you or has sentimental value. Good thing your husband found it!

I lost my comb about 30 years ago and I found it in one of my wife's drawers last week. I really didn't look very hard for it because my hair disappeared about 30 years ago also. I never spent any time looking for my hair, because the money I was saving at the barber's was adding up every week. I've saved enough money in Barber's fees to almost buy a new car!

Yes, comb is probably not a big deal to men, and I salute you for letting your hair go. I know some who desperately hangs on to the few strands left on their heads.

hio swirlz when we were moved from 260 to 258 the people moving our stuff left some important computer parts in 260 so I had given my son my key chain and He was sure he gave it back or put it on my bed. I was going to give it to the front office but the key chain and keys never ever showed up. we scoured our room and the o ld room. finally just gave up.here at G old Crest retirement center we must have a locked drawer for over the counter meds and my loc k and key was on the stolen key chain but luckily I found another small lock with key. I still never got a key for this room but we are managing. I hate misp-lacing or losing things but I really think someone stole the whole thing as it had a large P on the change for my first name Patsie.I do not usually give up easily but too it means something to me to lose my possesions specially in a place like this.

I get frustrated over missing things, but the possibility of them being stolen just makes me upset. I really hope it will be returned to you someday. It sounds very special to you.

Well I guess girls usually replace their combs lol. For me, I used to look for my cabinet key at home.Sometimes it is just always in my bag that I used at work but always can't find it when I have to use it lol.

It happens with me from time to time that I lose something. However, I keep trying to remember where I put it or where I lost it till I figure out where it is. Sometimes it works, some others it doesn't. It is in these latters that I decide to replace this thing by buying a new one. 'If something is meant to be yours, it will come back to you. If not, it won't. So, don't boder'. Buy a new one!.
