The novel 50 Shades of Grey outsell Harry Potter as the highest selling book. The novel has a first installment of an X-rated trilogy beaten JK Rowling and Dan Brown's book. I believe this book is also set to be made in Motion Pictures. Have you read the book? I havent read it yet... So I can really say if its really better than Harry Potter.

That doesn't sound accurate... the Harry Potter series has sold a grand total of 450 million copies. I doubt 50 Shades of Grey is anywhere close to scratching that record. I doubt it's outsold the Twilight saga. Where did you get this info? I haven't read the book yet either, but I don't think it would be fair to compare it with Harry Potter and try to determine which one was "better". The two are radically different story-types. One, a YA urban fantasy adventure story, the other a steamy x-rated romance series. I doooouuubt the same people enjoy them for the same reasons.

Ahh... that makes infinitely more sense. I doubt it will ever sell more than 450 million copies just because I think that Harry Potter had the benefit of having seven books in an ongoing series. 50 Shades of Grey has seemed to have discovered its fame after the series has been completed. 10 million copies is nothing to sneeze at though.

It has mad an incredible impact here in the UK, EVERYONE is talking about it and the books are proving very difficult to buy in book form, while many, many people are downloading it onto their Kindle (including me!!)

I have read the first installment of the Trilogy. Yes it is good but I do not think that most people will like it. Harry Potter is fun and is applicable to all ages and gender. But with 50 shades of grey, I am not sure if guys will love this kind of genre and this is definitely not for kids. But for me, this book is really good.

I have just started book one, my friend leant it to me, she has the same tastes as me and she too loves Harry Potter, so when I saw her reading Fifty shades of Grey on holiday, and recommended I should read it, I thought why not, as soon as I started reading, I just couldn't put it down. It's not often I find a good book that I cannot put down, it's addictive reading for sure. I am, however very surprised that it has outsold Harry Potter, I couldn't wait to see the films of Harry Potter, but I am not sure I would want to go and see the film of 50 shades of Grey. It's like a modern Mills and Boon romance story.

I agree with previous comment that you cannot compare fifty shades of gray with harry potter. Both series are from different genres and target audience. Fifty shades of gray is for adult, while harry potter is for young adult. And just because it sells so well, doesn't mean it's a good book. I haven't read it yet, but I think I will soon, just to find out if it was worth the hype.

Wow, I can't believe it's already outsold Harry Potter. I read both series but I can't really say one was better than the other, they're just too different. I enjoyed both series and I can't wait until 50 Shades is made into a movie. A few parts of the book are a little graphic and I could do without them but other than that, I really enjoyed reading them. By no means are they written brilliantly lol. But I don't judge a book based on how they're written. To me, my main concern with reading is entertainment. If it was a book I couldn't put down and enjoyed reading, then I consider it a good book. Both 50 shades and Harry Potter were like that for me. I knew that 50 Shades of Grey was popular..but I had no idea they would outsell Harry Potter.

Yeah, i have read that in the newspaper last week, 50 Shades is outselling Harry Potter already! Mainly because, it is easier to read :) and it tickles your imagination in more ways than Harry Potter can do! I love this trilogy and i am reading it the second time around now!!!
