father-in-law said he will stand already. . .

My father- in -law was bedridden since March 27. He was paralyzed waist down due to his stage 4 cancer of the prostate. . But lately he can already move his toes and bend his knees. Then the other day, he insisted to his caregiver to give him his cane, so he can already walk with him outside. We have to calmly tell him, he has to wait for some more time, before he can regain his mobility. He wasn’t even allowed to sit in his bed, lest the compression on his spinal column will be damaged and completely lose his mobility. I can understand that he is beginning to get restless, just having to be in bed all day, watching TV. How I wish he could be up and well again.

This is a good sign. It is nice that the treatment your FIL is taking is working on him. His urge to get up on his own and walk around as before, clearly shows how strong his will power is. Just tell him to wait for few more days so that he regains his lost health and energy. May he get well soon!

Yes, we are happy that at least the medicine is improving him. What is good with my FIL is that he has a strong will power. Perhaps the love and care that all of us in the house are giving him makes him fight for life.

Correct! If it happens to oither people, i think they would want to die instead , rather than being bedridden and not being taken cared of.

Absolutely! I agree. Without family's love, care and support no one can keep up the spirit to fight back problems and pain.

No winterose you got it wrong. He is bedridden for quite sometime and really can't walk yet. Although, he was so paralyzed before that he can't even move his feet , now he can at least move them and bend his knees. Thus, that gave him the notion that he can already walk. But actually, he can't. He was just we think hallucinating.

Atleast your father in law has the spirit, he was not disheartened and he has the spirit to be able to walk again. I have met people who are discourage and does not want to walk again and wants to even die because of it so with all his "animo" somehow he will be able to walk, i sense he has faith.

That's true Jazel. At least he is not disheartened that he is bedridden. In fact, since last week, he has already told us what foods to order for his birthday celebration on July 2. And two weeks ago, he has called his group of working students when he was still working in a university , to be present on his birthday.

It sounds like your father in law is well on the mend.It must have been so boring laying there all day.As long as he takes it easy he should be just fine.It is difficult trying to tell someone who is lively to sit still or thats enough excercise for today.he is so lucky to have you keep your eye on him

We are happy though, that even if he is already on the 3rd month of being bed ridden, he is still hopeful of living. He would always remind us of the medicines he is to take everyday. He has other maintenance medicines for his other existing ailments, such as hypothyroidism , hypertension etc. I am just one of those in the house that takes care of him.

The therapy that your father in law received must be very good. Did he had therapy? Imagine 4 months only he already able to mobilize himself. Boredom is the problem to all paralyzed patient especially if they are used to be so active before. What did doctor said about his prostate ca stage 4? Did he undergo chemotherapy? For all i know stage 4 CA deteriorates other parts of the body? We hope that your father in law will become well and able to walk and stand alone. Keep praying.

Actually, he had an MRI already and was for series of radiation. But transporting him to and from the hospital , as well as transporting him in a van (airlines have refused to transport him lying down) to the far city (12 hours drive) where there is radiation , could jeopardize the compression in his spinal column , that was seen on his MRI. The cancer has metastasized on his bones. Hence, the doctor said that if there is improvement in him with the once a month injectable, then he might as well not have the radiation anymore. But at any rate, we are told not too expect too much anymore since his cancer is already at stage 4. We are now just praying and hoping for a miracle that he might be able to walk again. At least, he can still enjoy the last days of his life, if ever.

I am sorry about his condition.. It can be very boring just to stay and watch tv all day. Maybe you should give him more stuff to do- like read a book or play board games.. Someone should always keeps him company. I do hope he will get better soon and can walk well again.

Actually, before he was paralyzed, watching TV is his hobby. His life is sedentary, because he is too lazy to exercise or even walk for at least 30 minutes. He doesn't have interest in reading. He was a stroke victim,a heart bypass patient and is fat, that's why he is lazy in moving. But he is hopeful that he will be able to walk again.

hello D, Sorry to hear this. :( I think I missed any discussion about your FIL - did you ever posted any before? I understand he wants to move and wants to feel he is still fine and don't want to be confined in bed anymore. But he should follow instructions to avoid bigger problem. I hope and wish your FIL will be totally fine again and stands on his own

Yes, i have a discussion "My father-in-law was bedridden", 3 weeks ago, Jaiho. I can understand his consternation and depression, being bedridden. But he should just stay put because it's the doctor's instruction. An injectable of his, monthly , have made other patients with same case , be mobile again after 6 months. So that's we are hopeful for, because we know his cancer stage is said to be 2 years or more and we want him to enjoy his remaining days being mobile.

Hi! I read from your profile that you are from Philippines too. There's a radio program we are always listening too about natural medicine and sometimes they talk about Prostate conditions. They have many patients who testify they are healed through taking natural medicines. You might one to try and search for Healing Galing.

Can you please specify what program is that? Maybe it could also be seen in the net? My father has prostate cancer too, since 9 years ago. He took some alternative medicines which are really costly and it really helped him bring his Prostate Specific Antigen to normal. He is still taking medicine for anti-cancer but at least he is still alive after the doctor have told him, he has 5 more years to live.
