I rest my case in thinking that Dave should've been drafted in in the first place to do our decorating in the hall, stairs and landing.
As it turned out I've had a good day chatting with Dave as he's been working. My, he can talk the hind legs off a donkey! I've always got along with him though which helps enormously as I trust him totally with the decorating. He's been doing it since 1968 so he knows what he's doing!
Anyway, he's carried out most of it and will finish off on Tuesday. Unbelievably, my FIL just had to come round first thing and show him what to do (as if I couldn't do this all by myself) but, I went along with it and it's now looking awesome, so I can't complain can I?
Pity I've no money to buy pictures for that massive expanse of wall but, never mind, I shall have to imagine them instead.

Most of the stuff on my walls are of my own making, too.

I've been eyeing up an area of narrow wall above the stairs and a picture of a giraffe would look PERFECT there!

Strewth! In one day?
Really? Let's see; time for some maths...
If he started in 1968, wallpapering & chatting away continuously, then either you've got yourselves the biggest darn property in the UK or you've changed your mind so many times... & just what does your husband do for a job these days?
Sorry Janey, but it just painted an hilariously funny picture in my mind! It sounds like Janey drives the UK economy!

Haha! Hiya veganbliss. I've just read it back myself and DTP does indeed look as though he's been working on our property since 1968!

You must be doing something right if he's still at it! I reckon he just loves chatting you up & doing the work is just a good excuse to do so!
Keep up the good work!

I loved watching him work. I guess he's so used to it that it's second nature to him. As he said to me, "Ask me to print something off from a computer and I wouldn't have a clue!" so we're all good at different things aren't we?

Hi Janey! I haven't read up on Dave, so not sure who Dave is, but glad it worked out well for you to do your wallpapering in a day! We just moved into a house - and our construction guy was "George" - who was our friend's department administrator's hubby . . . and he happened to have done their kitchen a few months back. He also happened to live very close to us which turned out to be convenient for him. Not only were we able to trust him off the bat, he was full of GREAT ideas. I was less chatty with him - because I didn't want to disturb his work - but he tried to be chatty because he had quite a few stories to tell - ha ha!!
You can do a lot with a huge wall and not spend loads of money. You don't even have to think big paintings, or photo frames . . . you can put a bunch of small items together to make it look like one unit. And like another said, you can make your own artwork (we are a family of artists, so we do that all the time!). We have storage issues, so we are putting up shelves and storage furniture against our bigger walls I guess!!

Dave is a guy we primarily know from the football we used to go to regularly. We used to go on coach trips to the odd away game (usually London) and he would be on there along with a load of other friends of outs. We don't go to the football anymore so it was nice to see Dave in his "other" capacity of painter and decorator. He's known as a slap dash painter but he's good, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it for as long as he has.
You were lucky with your tradesman too. It's great if you either know them to start with or you like them instantly once they come into your house - unlike my in-laws. Nah, my FIL is alright really..on his own!

Thats great that you got someone who can get old of work done in a day. That is someone that not only knows what he's doing, but he is dedicated and a good worker. So what if he talks a lot. And as for the pictures, don't worry, things will happen a little at a time. And besides it is probably better that way. You will have some time to decide on what yo ink will actually looks good hanging on the walls.

Very true. One thing's for sure, the pics I'm after are very colourful and would look awesome on the biggest wall (the one I photographed if you remember) and if I had two multi-coloured chandeliers I've got my heart set on, then it's completed to my satisfaction..in my head anyway!

You can't get much more colourful than the prints shown above..and here are the chandeliers I love..maybe go for clear ones if I feel I'm not brave enough lol.
Take a look at the Dar Souk multi-coloured chandeliers on the bottom left of the page below. Awesome!

That is to say, there is no anything left over to let your FIL do.Dave is certainly a great talker and has seen a great deal of life. When You were chatting, the hours crept by .If Dave had come round earlier, the decorating would have already been finished.

It certainly would my friend. The FIL did have his uses today - he re-installed the radiator (as it had to be taken off for the wallpaper to go behind it) so I'm pleased that's back on. Also, he will have a big job on with his daughter's as her rented house has to be put back to how it was before as she is moving out soon. It seems any improvements have to be taken away such as tiled flooring in the kitchen. Then the housing association people go in and re-do the property ready for someone else to go in. Total waste of money if you ask me. I can't see why it can't stay as it is!

They have a precise ways of doing things. As to tiled flooring ,It hardly matters at all.At least, they must consult with someone that is going to move in about it before they take away them. What you said is true,if they don't do so,they will be out of work.

Hi Janey. Just thinking about you not having anything for on your walls. Why don't you make something yourself? I have a couple ideas for you. The first one I saw on a channel we have called HGTV...Home and Garden Television...and it seems very easy. You use acrylic paint, like you buy in craft stores, and poster board. Put a few drops of paint on the poster board, and using a straw, gently blow it around to make a design. The one I saw came out to be a tree. Very easy and very pretty. You can pick up inexpensive frames at second hand stores or discount stores. Another idea is to use a pretty print material...mount it and frame it. Hope this gives you some ideas.

I will give this some serious thought and thanks very much for coming up with cheaper alternatives, it's much appreciated.
