Today my husband told me that my in laws will visit us tomorrow's afternoon. They also requested some food including tuna sandwich. I told my husband that I will call the nearest restaurant to order tuna sandwich but he disagree, he wanted me to make my own version of tuna sandwich. But the problem is I am not good in making sandwich. I searched in the internet earlier I saw many recipes of tuna sandwich but I dont know if that recipes taste really good. I need help from you my fellow mylotter, did you ever tried to make your own version of tuna sandwich? Is it delicious? Can you give me some tip or advice on how to make tuna sandwich? Thank you.

It seems all of us use the same ingredients: canned tuna, mayo, relish of some kind and optional egg. But the way I cook is by tasting. If I like it, I imagine the rest of the people will like it too. I like tuna in water, not oil. I like homemade mayo. I make my own relish and use very little of it as tuna has a strong flavour. Taste it and decide what else would you use for your own recipe

The best homemade mayo is the one you make with a fork and only the egg yolk. But it`s more difficult. You cna make mayo in a jiffy with the blender. I place 1 whole egg, 3/4 cup of oil, salt pepper and the juice of half a lemon. Blend for seconds and it`s done.

Like homemade mayo too but I dont know to make it but my mom knew if but the bad thing she is in the province and I dont have a chance to talk to her. Making own relish is a good idea I think I should start to search on how to make my own relish. Thank you my friend.

Hello bhebelen. You have gotten a lot of advise for tuna sandwiches. They are all good. I am a few days late with my way of fixing tuna sandwiches. Some have advised against using tuna in water but I prefer it canned in water. The oil canned tune is a bit strong to me. I really like a white tuna. A lot of the time I end up using albacore because it is cheaper than tuna. Taking two cans and drain and press out as much water as possible. I don't like pickles or relish in my sandwich spreads of any kin. I finely chop some sweet onion, celery and if I have it some bell pepper. We use Miracle Whip as my family doesn't like mayo. To this I add at least a teaspoon of mustard for more flavor. We do add lettuce and sliced tomato to make it special. We like the tune put on lightly toasted bread.

in our country, the best thing to do is buy or ask anybody to buy a can( or depending how many you will serve) of 555 or San Marino canned tuna ( the best for me )in any nearby Sari-sari store. Just make sure it's flaked and plain in oil ( they have other flavors like calderetta and adobo etc...) Since it's already flaked, mix pickle relish ( this is hard to find in the sari-sari sometimes), so just mince one white onion and add (quantity depends on your taste), then add Mayo ( just the pack if you are saving), then salt to taste, depending on you, you can also add a little pepper.

Before I forget, tuna sandwhich is most of the time served with the bread borders removed and the sandwich is cut triangle shaped, these is of course if the quests are formal, if it's not then any slice bread loaf, "pan de sal" or "pan de leche" would do just fine

Hi louievill, I used century tuna flakes in oil since we have it in our pantry, then instead of mince the onion, cut it into rings. Also I removed bread borders like you said and cut it to triangle shaped, it really looks very presentable. Thank you so much.

Yes there are a lot of versions of how to make it. My favorite is just pretty simple though. I like mine with a little bit of mayonaise or miracle whip for different taste, relish and either finely chopped onion or apple! The apple one makes it sweet and the other is good too with onion. Pick one and try it, it is not easy to mess up a tuna sandwich cause there are a lot of things you can do to make it taste good.

Drain the canned tuna put some pickled relish onions, pepper, salt and mayo. Mix it well and put it on a fridge before spreading it. Yummy!

Maybe that was my mistake I didn't put it on a fridge before spreading because they already arrived when I mixing all the ingredients. Anyway we still have some spread on the fridge I think it will really become tasty if I make my own sandwich later. Thank you

You could mix tuna with a little bit of drained canned sweetcorn, then mix with a tiny bit of plain, unsweetened yoghurt? Also, perhaps you could add to that a bit of cucumber, finely diced.

If it were me, I would go buy some fresh tuna to turn into tuna salad. What I would put into the recipe would really depend on what else I had on hand. Since I work primarily with fresh and local ingredients, I always have stuff in the fridge that needs to be used up. I would serve the salad on beautiful fresh multi-grain or whole wheat bread from a local bakery (theirs is better than mine) along with a small salad. Maybe serve up some fresh fruit as well, depending on what was in season. Drizzle the fruit with just a little caramel or chocolate. The result? A beautiful and healthy meal.
