How Safe Are We

We had our family reunion yesterday timing on our Grandmother's birthday. After the event, my husband and I went to my grandmother's house to pay a visit and to meet other relative who were there last night. My sister who happens to be staying there for overnight, told me she wanted to come with us so that she could have some time to talk to my Mother who happens to be staying in my house for the night. She will just be back after wards. So we came home together and we have a talk. After several minutes, she will be going back to my grandmother's house and my husband will have to take her back there riding a motorcycle. Not long after they leave, my phone started to ring so I picked it up and my sister was on the other line. "We had an accident!" So I ran outside to the road. I found the motorcycle on the road, my husband was able to stand but with some bruises on his arms and at the back. My sister similarly, has got some bruises on her arms and back. They were side swept by another fast running motorcycle. The suspect ran away and the bystanders were not able to get any identification except that my husband got the plate number. I know my husband is a very safe and defensive driver but then if other people on the road would not do the same, accidents can not really be avoided. I am just glad that both my sister and my husband were all safe.

Hello ARIES1973 I am sorry to hear that your husband and sister were side-swiped on their motorcycle and injured from this accident, but I am also the so glad to hear that they are not badly injured and that they will be okay. You are correct that we can drive safely ourselves, but we cannot know how others will be driving. No matter how the vigilant we may be in defensive driving, sometimes there is nothing we can do.

Yes that's true. The only thing we can do perhaps is to pray for our own and for others' safety. Thank you also for the correction. I had wrong choice of word that I used on my statement. That should be "side swiped". Forgive me for that.

Yes, I do believe that you are correct. As to the wrong choice of word -- I didn't even notice and by no means did I mean to correct you. It is no big deal.

I see alot of accidents on the road done by cars! People are on their cell phones talking or texting! People always seem to be in a hurry! I seen a guy pull out in front of a truck, with his SUV, and had alot of damage done on the left side above the front wheel! That was yesterday! A days before this was driving home and had to avoid a car in the middle of the street,at an intersection! A person had an accident! Looks like someone ran a stop light and hit this person's front bumper of the other car! I have seen people run stop lights, run through stop signs, cut me off on the roundabouts and then there are the people who don't use their signal lights! You can't be to careful now a days! If people would not be in such a hurry, stay off their cellphones and pay attention, alot of accidents could be avioded!
