I am considering stopping my landline...due to cost. I just recently got a cell phone so I don't need both, but the family insists I NEED a cell. I was raised just fine without one, I raised my kids just fine without one, I raised my grand kids just fine without one...I dont need a cell nor really wanted one, but I had to get one But my question is... I use my fax machine often. Is there a way to connect the cell to the fax machine when I want to fax something? I need to keep my fax available..but can I without a land line?

Chances are you still need a landline to send fax through your fax machine, unless you want to send your machine into the stockroom. Using cell phone to send data and images may not be cheap if you are using a limited plan from your provider, it may cost you dearly if you need to fax often in a month. You have to do some maths to find out the cost and benefit of using cell phone to send data, it very much depend on the type of service plan you have with your provider.

Yeah, I think doing it via cell phone is going to just be to much WORK for me...my husband won't learn it and makes me do all that and then gets mad when he doesn't understand what I am doing and thinks I don't know what I'm doing! So for my own sanity, I think I just need to stick with the land line...I just have to hope I can find a plan I can afford!

Here I am never used to fax anyone . When ever friends ask me to send a copy of the document, I just scan it and send it through email, so that they could take a print out of the document when ever necessarily. SO scanner is just enough form me. I never think behind of faxes.

Yeah, I know about the scanners, have one that I dont' use. But my problem is the husband in the family! He will NOT do all that work and it is just to complicated for him and he wont' let me do it as he has no control over it and he hates that. It's worth the $10 a month to have the fax just to keep my sanity! That is funny that a scanner can replace a fax machine..most likely the wave of the future.

Hello friend, If I had to choose between the two, I would keep the land line. Believe it or not, land lines are far more dependable than cell phones. They are not affected by solar flares either or storms that take down cell towers. Like you, I lived many years without a cell phone and frankly, I find them annoying most of the time. I cannot believe how and where people use their cell phone and "think" they are having a private conversation. Where I live, they have become a huge problem when driving and people are banned from texting or talking on the phone while driving unless it is hands free. Currently, I receive my DSL on stationary phone lines. The advantage to doing it is huge in my area. But people persist in thinking that broadband cable is faster, and the truth is, if you are the only person on the drop it might be, but usually you are not especially if you live in an apartment. I can tell you almost all the arguments you will hear about cell phones and in favor of them, but it took me a long time to tell people I didn't want to hear their discussion because I was keeping my land line. Besides, you always have to remember to carry an extra battery or charger or keep them charged or remember where they are. People are always loosing them or having to buy the next more advanced model. Nope, not me, I'll keep my land line phone.
